We would like to present you a new researchable module for one of the top tanks of the USSR/Russian armored vehicle tech tree – an explosive reactive armor set for the T-80B.
In the previous War Thunder update, we introduced T-80B, a top main battle tank of the USSR/Russian tech tree. In update 1.83 Masters of the Sea, we will introduce a new researchable module for this vehicle – the Kontakt-1 add-on explosive reactive armor. It will significantly boost the tank’s defense against HEAT projectiles, such as chemical rounds and anti-tank guided missiles. In combination with the main passive armour of the vehicle, this will provide increased anti-HEAT protection of up to 850-900 mm, helping it to withstand fire from even the most powerful ATGMs.
You can read about explosive armor and how it works in our devblog.

What a surprise!! The T-80B was killable with the 120mm heat and the ATGMs so we MUST do something to STOP that... Oh and btw we must increase the repair cost of the Abrams to make it "equal" to the IP that now have a "cheap" repair cost and they both doesn´t have the m833 (the M1IP started his duty with this round) or the m900 (with the M1IP also used, and not the m773 and m774)... soo yeah you are doing a great job gaijin... GREAT job.
Kind of along the same lines as the TU-4 has a lower repair cost than the B-29 (even though the Soviet Union stole the design down to the rivet count)... RU logic
We already have a huge imbalance in repair cost in the Abrams to the Russian tier 10 tanks to keep this so called balance, now we adding additional amour? No wonder I keep my Abrams parked and play lower tier tanks..... The fun disappears quick in BR. 10
But the T-80B could not have ERA it was the BV with ERA and that had different amour layout in the UFP
A few were indeed converted. You are right on the BV however.
I just don't get why you're giving us old Soviet tanks with old ammo compared to much younger tanks for other nations. The T-80B came into production in 1978 whereas the best ammunition for 900 SL it's using is two years older (1976). On the other hand, the M1 IP came in 1984, 2A4 in 1985, and Type 90 as late as 1990! What we should have is the T-80U or at the very least T-80BV with optional 3BM32 and 3BM22 as default ammo.
(That is if you insist that the Soviet Union should suffer a handicap above BR 9.0…)
And can tanks from '78-90 see planes from the same era in the air in mixed battles? No? Hmm...
Shouldn't it have Contakt 5?
Kontakt 5 came a little bit later. Probably they don't put it already ingame due to OP issues, because K5 give protection also against APFSDS.
So you're giving Russia their M1A1HA equal? And Ger/JP already have the M1A1 equals. Meanwhile UK has the worst endline tank and the US has tanks that are inferior in armor and armament compared to USSR/Ger/JP. Makes sense?
Well done guys! really great work! so when other nations will be getting 10.0 MBT's? the US right now is slighty OP due to a LOT of abrams' tanks. what about the T80BV Obr 1985 (5layer UFP) , T72B Obr 1984 (NERA 11 Layer armor) , challenger mk3, leopard 2A1 maybe with DM23 or even a Leo1a5 with really modern rounds, anyway stuff like that. and MAYBE even adding DM33 for germans, 3BM29 or 32 for russians, and the M833 that americans want... Keep the great work!
i meant, MORE 10.0 MBT'S like the US
Russian ego incharge of the game balance... shame... shame... shame... shame...shame... shame
are you kidding me, its OP enough as it is!?!?!?! Pls balance youre game a little more level all countries, and nerf youre russian tanks, they were not that good tanks iRL, so pls set youre patritsm away and make the game realistic again!
So the devs are adding ERA to a tank that didn't have it, but a 180 variant from 1985 did?.. really?
