The War Thunder 1.59 update features improvements to the model of one of the largest aircraft in the game – the B-29 Superfortress strategic bomber as well as the addition of the Tu-4, a Soviet copy of this American giant.
We planned an update of the model of the B-29 Superfortress, which has been the super-giant in the skies of War Thunder for a fair time now, as the basic model was used as the foundation for several very interesting modifications that we want to add to the game. The first of these is the Tu-4 strategic bomber which is a Soviet copy of the B-29. So, we would like to present to you the updated model of the B-29 and the new Soviet Tu-4 bomber in the War Thunder 1.59 "Flaming Arrows" update!
We would first like to show you the update to the external appearance of the B-29. The original model did not meet the standards of quality which we currently follow when making our models. We have created a completely new model of the B-29 which is more accurate and has a high polygon count. The aircraft with the largest wingspan in the game (43 meters) looks better both overall and in detail. The sheets of aircraft skin are made of unpainted metal and beautifully reflect the light of the sun (we now use a new render which is great at conveying shining metal), the nacelles have smoother lines and the pilot’s cabin and gunner positions have become more detailed. The propeller blades are not angular like they were before and the detail of the landing gear has been improved.
The Soviet Tu-4 strategic bomber is a copy of the B-29 with more powerful engines and armament. The USSR did not possess strategic aviation capacity in 1945, while having a great requirement for it as the Cold War was about to begin. The B-29 that ended up in the hands of Soviet engineers seemed to be a technological miracle and a vast gap between the long-range bomber technologies of the US and the USSR was soon discovered. The Soviet engineers had to bridge this gap in the shortest time possible, so they decided to copy this wonderful plane. A huge amount of work was done in the Tupolev Construction Bureau and the result was worth the effort. The Soviet Union now had its own strategic bomber which was given the Tu-4 designation.
After testing and modernization, the soviet B-29 clone became even better than the original – The Tu-4 was equipped with more powerful engines (2400 hp as opposed to the 2200 hp of the B-29) and all five turrets had the machine guns replaced with twin 23 mm autocannon. The cannons were controlled remotely by the gunners and provided 360 degree defense without blind spots.

As regards to the bombs equipped on the Tu-4 in War Thunder, we have to tell you that there are no plans for an atomic bomb. The same applies to the B-29. The range of bombs includes 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 kg, with a total weight of up to 7120 kg. This information is provisional at this stage and will be clarified when the update is released.
The gigantic B-29 and Tu-4 will be waiting for you in the hangars of War Thunder 1.59 "Flaming Arrows"! Fly forth and let the enemy fighters suffer when they try to shoot you down! See you soon!

''The original model did not meet the standards of quality which we currently follow when making our models'' Are you kidding me, the B-25 has a drawn on radial engines, the He 111's side windows are painted..
And who said we will not refresh their 3d models in future updates? :)
Stona_WT, I hope you do, because some of those models were taken directly from Wings of Prey, and game which - whilst impressive at the time - is decidedly dated by today's graphical standard. I understand why they were used, but it looks really bad when you compare them with the newer models.
So why is Britain getting the Halifax in the next update? Nobody cares about the Halifax, Stirlings or multiple variations of the Wellington. Why is Britain being kept in WW2 with duplicates of existing aircraft? Why isn't the Lincoln or Shackleton being introduced to encourage parity with other nations? Why hasn't the Westland Whirlwind been added to fill the tech tree gap for Britain for a twin engined fighter? Where is the Churchill Mk1? Why isn't the Crusader SPAA Mk1 in correct place?
I must admit these are pertinent questions. I do feel the British tech tree would drastically be improved if these vehicles/planes were introduced. Britain is certainly lacking when it comes to a variety of heavy-type bombers. Moreover, those which are in the game seem to be limited to a much lower payload than what could actually be carried. As for heavy twin-engined fighters, British pilots are stranded with OVERTIERED Mosquitos. Their BR must be re-adjusted with new a/c added in the tech tree
Payload is wrong. The bomb load of the B-29 eventually reached 9000 kg (20000 lb)" (Lewis 1994, p. 4) Lewis, Peter M. H., ed. "B-29 Superfortress". Academic American Encyclopedia. Volume 10. Chicago: Grolier Incorporated, 1994. ISBN 978-0-7172-2053-3.
it has to remain fair cuz u cant have 1 b29 just bomb every base then still bomb the af whith the remaining bomb load
acekiller75830, thats true but this is a high br bomber. they could just as easily increase hp of the bomb targets and airfield at a certain br threshold. im just pointing it out sooner or later someone will make a thread saying the payload is wrong.
Now when USSR got their new Tu-4 with 10 23mm cannons, Could the B-29 get even the single extra 20 mm cannon to the rear turret? Maybe through an additional modification like the Yak-9UTs main gun. Or even the upper front turret with 4 50cal.s, or why not both.
B-29 is going to get 4x50cal upper turret in next update.
Wallia_Marseille, Well. That's something...
Soooooooo, the Pe-8 wasnt big enough for the russian players that you had to add a russian copy of a previously US exclusive plane >.> Are you gonna give the russians the maus since they captured that too.
Yeah, lemme see when they're adding the Maus that they reverse engineered and put into productio-Oh wait.
Sn1perandr3w, Hm, let me see... they're giving the Germans the KV2 and T-34 that Germans reverse engineered and put into serial production, upon which Ruhr factories spewed out thousands of these vehicles. Wait, wut? Just look at number of additions, each patch German faction always gets more stuff than any other, more planes and more tanks. And somehow they all end up OP, even if only one, incomplete, ever existed and even if they were just on paper.
My view on the topic: hate gunner ships aka death stars. I love to destroy them in million pieces. All bombers should be destroyed.
Boo you sir. Some bombers don't have the luxury of having 'good' defense....or was the Great Bomber Nerf Apocalypse that turned all bombers into tissue paper not enough for you? Seriously tho bombers in this game are pretty darn unbalanced and are killed way to easily.
WorvernScar, You are damn right my b-17 gets shredded with 2 shells to the fuselage and this guy thinks they are op
I spent forever grinding to the b29 because it was the one American plane I wanted. Now the Russians get an up-engined and up-gunned copy? Bold move, gaijin.
Can we please get 1.59 this week?
someone mentioned making the Tu-95 the top tier for the Russians instead. But I disagree, this should be the next highest tier and the US equivalent should be the B-36 Peacemaker. But really the bombers need a new branch, speed bombers and capacity bombers. Like the B-47 should be on the same tier, but a different category. just like the Il-54 and the Tu-95. though the Tu-95 is very fast.
Or "Strategic" bombers and "Heavy" bombers the US needs the Douglas A3 as a strategic match for the Il-28.
William_Almond, Britain really needs a post war bomber along the same lines. In this update Britain gets the .... Halifax. Great. Britain lacks a twin engined fighter and a post war prop bomber along the same lines as the B-29/TU-4.
yea b29 very cool plane, except it only faces jets and is usless, needs lower br, is no better than b17s except in paylaods
B-29 is very different, it is much faster than a B-17 has no wing overload and has better rear defense. B17 E/L and B17 G also play with jets.
