The War Thunder 1.59 update features improvements to the model of one of the largest aircraft in the game – the B-29 Superfortress strategic bomber as well as the addition of the Tu-4, a Soviet copy of this American giant.
We planned an update of the model of the B-29 Superfortress, which has been the super-giant in the skies of War Thunder for a fair time now, as the basic model was used as the foundation for several very interesting modifications that we want to add to the game. The first of these is the Tu-4 strategic bomber which is a Soviet copy of the B-29. So, we would like to present to you the updated model of the B-29 and the new Soviet Tu-4 bomber in the War Thunder 1.59 "Flaming Arrows" update!
We would first like to show you the update to the external appearance of the B-29. The original model did not meet the standards of quality which we currently follow when making our models. We have created a completely new model of the B-29 which is more accurate and has a high polygon count. The aircraft with the largest wingspan in the game (43 meters) looks better both overall and in detail. The sheets of aircraft skin are made of unpainted metal and beautifully reflect the light of the sun (we now use a new render which is great at conveying shining metal), the nacelles have smoother lines and the pilot’s cabin and gunner positions have become more detailed. The propeller blades are not angular like they were before and the detail of the landing gear has been improved.
The Soviet Tu-4 strategic bomber is a copy of the B-29 with more powerful engines and armament. The USSR did not possess strategic aviation capacity in 1945, while having a great requirement for it as the Cold War was about to begin. The B-29 that ended up in the hands of Soviet engineers seemed to be a technological miracle and a vast gap between the long-range bomber technologies of the US and the USSR was soon discovered. The Soviet engineers had to bridge this gap in the shortest time possible, so they decided to copy this wonderful plane. A huge amount of work was done in the Tupolev Construction Bureau and the result was worth the effort. The Soviet Union now had its own strategic bomber which was given the Tu-4 designation.
After testing and modernization, the soviet B-29 clone became even better than the original – The Tu-4 was equipped with more powerful engines (2400 hp as opposed to the 2200 hp of the B-29) and all five turrets had the machine guns replaced with twin 23 mm autocannon. The cannons were controlled remotely by the gunners and provided 360 degree defense without blind spots.

As regards to the bombs equipped on the Tu-4 in War Thunder, we have to tell you that there are no plans for an atomic bomb. The same applies to the B-29. The range of bombs includes 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 kg, with a total weight of up to 7120 kg. This information is provisional at this stage and will be clarified when the update is released.
The gigantic B-29 and Tu-4 will be waiting for you in the hangars of War Thunder 1.59 "Flaming Arrows"! Fly forth and let the enemy fighters suffer when they try to shoot you down! See you soon!

How disgusting He 177 was promised to get added before past year winter yet even now they dont add it
yay another plane to spaceship in. cause the b29 wasn't bad enough gaijin balance bombers dont just add more of them mandatory shout out to helmetpotato... presumably why this was added
A little note to the "Artists" who are creating the camouflages for the aicrafts.- great model tho. really. 1+ Please, Please finally fix the Roundels on american planes. in a game like this, wrong roundels shouldnt happend. USAAF 44' roundels were never at 6 postitions. only at 4. 2 fuselage roundels + one on the upper left wing and one of the lower right one. same for the F-84. roundels are wrong there too. same for the P-47M the P-38J dont even have lower roundels
im sorry to say this i woud love to agree with u in every word but gaijin devs have better things to do like matchmaker and balance and bugs i dont think this is their priority right now maybey a later patch but not atm
Cool a new bomber for the Russians. I still really want the Westland Whirlwind though. It was such a great plane.
Tu-4 is *not* a copy despite its outward appearance. Because Russia used Metric standards and had completely different system equipment, they needed to completely re-engineer the B-29 to be able to build a Russian equivalent. It was a gargantuan task that Tupolev amazingly succeeded. Although the major features look identical, almost no part on a Tu-4 would fit a B-29.
Gaijin, do you like to make me mad? I know im biased for American stuff, but seriously, this is rediculious. Why can't you add Russian made planes, not Russian copied planes. We already have the B-29, now you add a plane that has La-9 caliber 23mm cannons, the .50 caliber machine guns can kill planes already. But now you put 23s on there? This plane will probably be un-killable, unless this is at BR 9.0 where it actually has a chance at dying. Would you change the ammo load or something?
and would you mind "re-doing" the B-17 models? make them more detailed? and im sorry about this rant, this topic made me really mad. I hope you are not too mad :) have a good day ok?
Please, just give us 1.59. I would much rather play with the new features than read about them in dev blogs. This is taking too long, we can't even get into the dev server because you haven't put it up. People are getting bored and impatient.
i would like to point out some flaws about the tu-4 first off it was worse then the b29 (due to the b29 having better technology then the Russian possessed) also the engines where weaker then the model they where copied off of but if you want to add a later version of the tu-4 you should add later versions of the b29 which had bigger bomb loads then tu-4 and overall better if not then add the first of the tu-4 not the later ones with the better engines and stuff thank you
Now that we finally added a tier 4 heavy bomber how about we start adding German heavy bombers? seriously there is a crap ton of German heavy bombers, and all it took me to know about this was some comment and Google.com. also please add the Messerschmitt Me 264, and yes it looks like a low budget version of the B-29.
is the Northrop XB-35 / YB-35 or the Martin XB-33 Super Marauder going to be added?
