France was one of the first countries to use aviation in combat: by the beginning of World War I it had 15 airships and almost 150 aircraft. Still, they were a part of the army until the French Air Force became independent on July 2nd, 1934. Two fighters and a decal for Swedish Air Force Day
On July 1st, 1926 the Swedish Air Force was created by merger of airborne divisions of army and navy. Even though it didn’t participate in World War II, it was preparing to by raising its numbers — and kept doing it in the beginning of the Cold War. By 1957 Sweden held the fourth most powerful air force in the world, consisting of a thousand modern aircraft. After the Cold War ended, Sweden massively decreased the number of aircraft in its service: currently its Air Force employs only about 200 vehicles.

Since then it has gone by many names, but now it’s called Bundesmarine and consists of 65 vessels, 56 aircraft, and 17,000 people. Its anniversary will be celebrated in Wilhelmshafen by opening up frigate Hamburg for the public, as well as concerts and competitions.

RN Geniere Is Back for Italian Navy Day
On June 10th, 1918 an Italian MAS 15 torpedo boat, commanded by lieutenant Luigi Rizzo, scouted an Austro-Hungarian dreadnought Szent István — and sank it with only two well-placed torpedo hits. It was a triumph for the Italian fleet, and since 1939 this date is celebrated as Italian Navy Day.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, paid special attention to the Air Force of his country, and his adopted daughter Sabiha Gökçen became one of the first female pilots of military aircraft. Today the Turkish Air Force enlists over 50 thousand people and has over 500 aircraft.

The Swedish Home Guard was founded on May 29th, 1940, as World War II was heating up. Sweden managed to remain neutral, so the Home Guard never participated in battles.
