How do you make a good tank even better? Upgrade its armor and weaponry, of course! Meet the T26E1-1 Super Pershing – the mighty successor to the beloved by many Pershing!
The American M26 Pershing is an excellent tank – it’s maneuverable, has a good cannon and decent armour. But there’s always room for improvement, right? America’s military engineers thought so too. They equipped the Pershing with a new powerful weapon, welded a few steel plates and installed extra defense for the gun mantlet from the German Panther – and thus was born the T26E1-1 Super Pershing, a long-awaited addition to War Thunder coming in update 1.57.
The tank turned out to be interesting. Although the 500 horsepower engine from the M26 clearly isn’t sufficient to call the Super Pershing a fast tank, the improved weaponry and additional frontal armour were certainly to the tank’s advantage.
The huge 90mm T15E1 cannon with its length of over 71 calibres can confidently destroy even heavy tanks at its rank, and at the same time, it has excellent angles of elevation, which often decides the outcome of a tank duel in War Thunder. To compensate for the weight of the huge cannon, the rear of the turret had a counterweight welded on. But even that turned out to be too little! The spring balancers that allow the vehicle to balance its weight during firing are clearly visible on the tank’s turret model. The front of the turret is protected by a field modded gun mantlet, on it is an additional 80mm plate which was scavenged from a German Panther.
Also as a field modification, two thick boiler steel plates were welded onto the front of the tank’s hull. Set at an angle and forming a great effective thickness, the two steel plates provide serious additional protection to the frontal projection of the tank from armour-piercing and explosive enemy shells.
The heavy T26E1-1 Super Pershing, armed with its gigantic cannon which extends out from the vehicle for over 4 meters, will take its place in the heavy US tank line at rank IV, right before T32. This tank is sure to be liked by all fans of American armoured vehicles. Look for the T26E1-1 Super Pershing on the battlefields of War Thunder in update 1.57. See you there!
