In War Thunder update 1.59 "Flaming Arrows" , we’re adding several tanks armed with ATGMs at once. On top of that, we’re continuing to work on tanks with unguided rockets. Today’s hero is the British Cromwell RP3, armed with aircraft rockets!
The success of multiple rocket launchers and experiments with installing unguided rocket launchers on tanks could not fail to catch the interest of British tank designers. In 1946, British engineers performed an experiment with aircraft rockets on a Cromwell tank, installing four immobile rocket rails on a welded frame. With the help of some clumsy fixtures, standard aviation rockets were mounted on these rails. They were designed to destroy submarines and ships, but in practice were widely used during assaults on ground targets. And so the Cromwell RP3 was born, an experimental rocket-equipped tank, which, unfortunately, was outdated as soon as it was created.
Although the tank had no place in the Cold War, the rocket-equipped Cromwell is most welcome in War Thunder! The first and so far only tank with unguided rockets in the British tech tree, this vehicle is sure to find fans among our players. The tank has just one flaw – its rockets can be aimed only by turning the tank’s turret, since its rails are immobile. The tank’s advantages are everything else. Four semi-armor-piercing rockets (the same as those used on the Hurricane Mk IIb fighter) cause extremely heavy and sometimes deadly damage to any opponent at the tank’s rank.
Since the rockets are hard to aim and there are only four of them, the rocket-equipped Cromwell’s Battle Rating will be the same as a standard tank (at least, when the update is released). For tankers experienced with the Cromwell who know all its strengths and weaknesses, these aircraft rockets will be an excellent addition for destroying enemy tanks. Yes, this tank has its own ‘finisher’!

Cheesy peeps, im likeing the way the game is coming along with all these, air to air refuling would be good thing in futer as it was first used 1921 and 1951 by military in Korean war
Yesterdays devblog was boring...man you guys got this devblog good! This is what I love to see!!!!!! Good job guys!
Is the reverse speed going to be looked at at some point? Its what makes most tier 3 and 4 british tank useless right now...
Why would they "look" at somethign thats working exactly liek its supose to?
Brits do not have reverse because they never retreated !! ;)
Its a high speed low drag rocket monster!!
I have NO interest in rocket tanks. IMO rocket artillery is an antipersonel weapon mainly to use in preparatory or preemptory barrages. Too many "special" vehicles in the game and not enough standard issue vehicles. Putting a 1946 prototype into low tier tanks is worse than useless. Most of us, I think, want to play battles with a least a slightly historical feel to them with BR for balance. I doubt anyone wants to play 1940 vs 1946 vehicles.
*1940 Chassis *1940 Rockets *1946 Rails What makes this tank a Tier V tank? The rails? Yeah. That's about it. Also, Would you want a B-17 (1936) fighting I-16s (1936)? No, it's unbalanced. Would you want the KV-2 (1940) fighting Pz.IIs (1940)? No, it's unbalanced yet again. Need I say more? The timeline is unrealistic for games and unbalanced for games. Also, M4 shermans (1942) would fight Sturer Emils (1942) ;)
While the KV-2 and Pz. II were both introduced in 1940, the KV-2's military service lasted much longer than the Pz. II, historically justifying its higher tier.
Thank devs, that is beautiful and interesting rocket tank! Will we also have some another tier fourth british premium tank better than Black Prince? :D My crew slot for premium british tank is empty xD
See, now something like this is definitely worth the Premium status because of it's experimental nature, unlike the Westland Wyvern.
Maybe its time to bring in Japanese tanks? Yes, I know they have alot of smaller tanks, that can be weak, but they are fast, and the Japs built that giant 150 ton tank, that although slow, it did have a very large gun. It didnt see much action due to its weight, but in WT I think it has a place. Bring on Japan with tanks guys, it could be more interesting than you think.
They would not fit in War Thunder, with the best tank they actually MADE was the Chi-To, and that was a counter to the M4 SHERMAN. Also, they can never have a Tier IV / V, because anything beyond Tier II and III are paper tanks, which Gaijin never adds (any tank that is added has the minimum requirement of being partly made, which allows things like the E-100 to exist).
To be honest, I'm not really concerned about Gaijin's recent obsession with premium rocket tanks. After all, they're novelty vehicles designed more as collector's items than actual gameplay vehicles. After all, the rockets on this thing are, outside of point-blank range engagements, much less efficient than simply using the guns, and their presence means an increase in the vehicle's battle rating. This vehicle really is just an up-tiered Cromwell with a last-resort close-in weapon.
Me: Nice, RP3's for tanks, Tiger will not last long >:D Other's: OMG GAJON WUT DA FUB ANOTHER PREMIUM IM DONE LEAVING NOW KTHNXBAI
