The Westland Wyvern was the first series-produced combat aircraft in the world equipped with a turboprop engine. It will also be the first of its kind in War Thunder, as a Premium vehicle. Meet the new addition to the game, one of the most extraordinary carrier-borne aircraft in history!
The Westland Wyvern was actively developed after the end of the Second World War. The immediately noticeable distinctive features of this aircraft are its unusual appearance and two contra-rotating propellers. But that’s far from everything that makes it stand out from its contemporaries. The aircraft is equipped with a turboprop engine, which provides an impressive weight-lifting ability. Finally, it is armed with four 20mm cannons which automatically make it a dangerous opponent to any opponent unlucky enough to become its target.
Due to the originality and unusualness of its design, development of the aircraft dragged on for a long time. The first prototype took to the skies in 1946, but series production of the Wyvern didn’t start until 1953! Late for the Korean War, the carrier-borne plane managed to take part in battles of the Suez Crisis. Nonetheless, the combat history of this aircraft does not stand out as one of variety and depth.
That said, in War Thunder the Wyvern has every chance to prove itself all over again. The chief advantage of this turboprop aircraft is its flexibility. Apart from its fantastic frontal cannons, the aircraft can also be armed with torpedoes, bombs or impressive rockets. With a complement of 16 rockets, the Wyvern will be a deciding force in mixed battles in War Thunder.
Naturally, even the most unusual vehicles in the game have their weaknesses. Paradoxically enough, for the Westland Wyvern it is speed. The aircraft has trouble flying faster than 380 mph (611 km/h), and can only manage that only at low altitudes. A peculiarity of the Python engine is that at higher altitudes, its power drops catastrophically. Apart from that, it has no defensive weaponry, so it is recommended to avoid letting anyone get on your six.

For once I completely understand the reasons to make this premium, its a niche plane that doesnt fill any needed gap and is fairly unique
Unique? Aside from the Contra-Rotating Props and its' Turboengine, there's literally nothing unique about it. It's the Firebrand's ugly sister who no one speaks of.
With the introduction of turbo-props in war thunder is the Trent-Meteor a possibility?
I was completely hyped watching the video then i read the description under it saying premium... Oh well i guess just test flying it will kinda make me fell better....
Nice! Im really hoping for some other Tier 4 props in this patch! Like: La11, P51H, Spiteful,...
Stop making mass produced variants premium only. I know the company must make money, but planes/tanks made in small numbers should be premium. Remember the H8K hysteria?
H8K? Sir, you forget the riots raised over the Fw. 189 Uhu. We still haven't seen prop nor wing of it since its' announcement.
They should do it like they did with the Do 335 - 2 variants in the main tree, 1 premium. Everyone was happy.
Not happy to see another devblog about a premium vehicle, but at least it's a plane. I hope it brings a lot of money and maybe we could obtain it through some ridiculous event in the future.
With it most likely being a Tier IV Premium, people are gonna have to shell out money for GE anywhere from 4,500 GE to 7,000 GE. So of course, they're gonna get their money from those who will drop their money in a heartbeat for something new and shiny, even if it is ugly as sin.
How much bomb it can carry? : )
Can we have the Welkin possibly?
For those wanting to know it's RL specifications (which I assume will be mimicked in-game), here you go: Service ceiling: 28,000 ft Rate of climb: 11.9 m/s 4 × 20mm British Hispano Mk.V cannon, 2 in each wing (Mk.V's!!!!!!) 16 × RP-3 underwing rockets 1 × Mk.15 or Mk.17 torpedo Up to 3,000 lb (1,361 kg) of bombs
Production vehicle > premium. ;_; Why...
