The Soviet D-3 torpedo boats were produced at the same time as the G-5 boats, but were capable of completing a far greater range of tasks than their competitors. Meet a new boat in the USSR tech tree!
The small D-3 torpedo boat was designed in Leningrad throughout 1939-1940. In August 1940, an experimental prototype was accepted for testing by the Black Sea Fleet, the boat being deployed in the same year. Although the D-3 differed only slightly from the G-5 in her armament and size, she showed excellent potential in terms of the tasks it could complete. The D-3 stood out from its competitor with her higher maneuverability and range, reliability of parts and of the design as a whole, her improved navigational equipment and the presence of a habitable deck allowed the D-3 to be used as a light and quick landing transport.
The military effectiveness of the D-3 boat is perfectly illustrated by the actions of these vessels in the course of the amazingly successful landing operation by the Soviet Northern Fleet in Liinakhamari and the military action that preceded the winning stroke. The D-3 boats not only effectively fought against Axis convoys, but also played a decisive role in capturing artillery batteries at the fiord of Petsamo, delivering landing parties to enemy fortifications under devastating fire from the shore. This military operation showed the excellent survivability of the D-3 – although her hull was constructed from wood of various types, the torpedo boats could withstand hundreds of penetrating hits and still get her crew out from under enemy fire.
In War Thunder, the D-3 torpedo boat is coming to the lower ranks of the Soviet naval tech tree. She is a small vessel, a little more than 22 meters in length, with a water displacement of 36 tons. Her powertrain consists of three GAM-34 gasoline engines, which provide the boat with a maximum speed of 32 knots (60 km/h).

The boat is armed with two 533 mm calibre 53-38 torpedoes – the same as equipped on the G-5, but this time launched by being dropped overboard in line with the boat’s direction of movement. The D-3 has a complement of 9 crew members and is equipped with two high-calibre DShK cannons and depth charges.
The D-3 torpedo boat will be one of the first boats available for testing to participants of War Thunder’s naval warfare closed beta test. Raise your anchors and be among the first testers of the War Thunder navy. See you in battle!

afaik, Liinakhamari amphibious landing has to do with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petsamo%E2%80%93Kirkenes_Offensive , but if you search for Liinakhamari on google you mostly get results for ufo conspiracies.
this is like a bad joke we were promised something and we were excited but the excitement bubbled over into irritation. the suspense is gone just tell us when cbt starts.we were told soon a month ago soon and we got told 2 weeks ago soon. why r there only Russian boats? even the Russian players seem unimpressed.maybe to ease the excitement allow players to test drive the boats they have bought to train a bit. however progress is slow but its progress good work. ps can torp bombers rearm at boats
There haven't been JUST Russian boats being shown, there have been a few American, a couple Japanese, a few British, and one German shown.
Oh great, another torpedo boat. I'm so stoked for Naval Forces! (heavy sarcasm)
Any big Ships like destroyers and War ships coming up like USS Iowa, Bismark, Yamato and HMS Royal Sovereign (British) renamed Arkhangelsk (1944 USSR) and the Sovetsky Soyuz (Project 23)?
Still no actual word of when the CBT will begin - and that is just SHADY business not giving ANY word on even what MONTH it will be a whole business quarter after charging people money; well now we - your investors, the players - would like to know when we can make use of our investment toward said developments? Even a month? For all we know "this year" is a total ruse where you plan to wait until 11:59 pm of December 31st like some bad joke.
Again, a whole quarter has gone by. I am sure everyone who threw money at this to happen wants to at least know what month it is going to be to ease our minds that it will even happen on time. If you can't even say what month it will be - I think that pretty much says that you are behind schedule and don't want to admit it over 4 months into the deal.
Can you do a devblog on the damage system for ships? Please
When can poke a hole with AP and then blow up the tank with HE right through hole, and use torpedo to actually blow up a hole in armament model?
whats with all the small boats with torps when yall havent shown anything larger like a light Destroyer or a destroyer? how torps are ment for big ships its pointless to attack small boats cuz they can easily evade the slow torps no problem
Can they though? All the coub videos show torpedo hits on other boats ;P
so far japan only have one ship
2 boats m8
Even if Navel does not work out I can foresee some extensive and epic user made missions with these assets. Like a full fleshed out depiction of D-day using land, air, and navel assets. This gunna be awesome Gaijin!
going to need to make assets for quite a few ships, there were more ships involved than boats (unless we count landing craft)
tizianenel, Gaijin has stated that they would likely have fully modeled large ships run by AI as objective targets during gameplay. Odds are the assets will be there for destroyers, cruisers, battleships, and the like. I can not remember if this is confirmed or not but I believe it was.
