Minefield Ahead! Try out the VS-8!
Attention! Outdated news format. Content may not display correctly.
Insidious traps, equally dangerous for fast boats and for huge cruisers - naval mines! Today War Thunder commanders have a chance to learn more about a potential enemy weapon.
This is the first appearance of Naval Mines in War Thunder! In using the VS-8 "Schell I" you will help us test the mechanics of mines in real battles.
From 12:00 GMT on the 15th of November till 07:00 GMT on the 19th of November
Win 7 times with a battle activity of 50% or higher in naval battles whilst controlling a ship and get a 24 hour rental for the minelayer hydrofoil VS-8 "Schell I".
Event features:
- Vessels of all ranks are able to participate in the event.
- You can follow progress by clicking on your nickname → Achievements → Achievements → Special.
- You can only receive the VS-8 for rental once.
- The rental begins from the moment the task is completed and the boat is received.
- To participate in battle with the VS-8, the boat must be allocated to a crew slot. After the rental is finished, crew skills will not be reset and can be used in the future for any battles with the VS-8.
- Any RP and SL earned during the use of the VS-8 will not be reset after the rental is finished.
- In case of problems being found during testing, both the action itself and the possibility of using VS-8 "Schell I" may be suspended.
Please share your suggestions on this type of weaponry in War Thunder in our dedicated forum topic!

Definitely a waste of time, this boat. 4/5 battles, the guns are bugged out, with 3/4 guns pointing straight up into the air or somewhere else, leaving only one gun operational. Most boats are at either your speed or quicker, so your mobility is quite garbage. The MG's, if it wasn't enough that they're stuck are also quite shit. They do minimal damage, even at close range with AP. Even with the premium RP bonus, I'm not wasting more time with this garbage.
This is excellent. Keeping the crew skills earned, RP earned and SL earned is fantastic. What a great way to try the minelayer. This is an easy task to reward players with. This is practically a gift. Thanks Gaijin, very nice..
Before feeling sorry for yourselves about all the complaints, just remember you brought this on yourselves through years of ignoring your community. I've always defended gaijin, but the fact it's taken so long just to compromise on one issue, and it took the less mature side of the community screaming and shouting about it for you to listen, limits my sympathy when you get complaints about a perfectly reasonable event.
why is there so much hate I don't understand
I could see this having a lot of potential for a defensive play style we don't see much in War Thunder. I don't get why this has complaints already, this will make for a great area denial weapon to help protect the zones. Will the be fully submerged or will they be float, or could we get an option to choose that? Can we blow it up by shooting at it if it's floating or using torpedoes to clear channels blocked by them? A lot of potential for these.
like they said at the start of cbt you will beable to set how deep they go but to deep and small boats wont hit them
I don't think this test should be a 24 hour rental that requires 7 victories to get. Don't get me wrong, I don't think you should be able to get the VS-8 permanently for free after 7 victories, but 24 hours is a very short time and you can only earn it once, in addition to the fact that you need to win 7 times first. I would rather this have been buyable permanently as a premium or given automatically to everyone who has Rank II unlocked only for the duration of the test.
will we be seeing it return so that we can own it perminantly (especially for those who get the text drive)?
im gonna be honest with you"gaijin", the mines are bad in the current state, the boat is fun and all but considering the purpose of mines and seeing them explode after a minute-ish defeats the purpose, i like the fact that you can shoot them and see them from a distance so why make them self destruct, played the boat a few times and haven't got a single kill with the mines
why don't just give it right away? That way the test can begin sooner and without pissing off the community. Pacifica being pacifica XD
I would be better 5 minutes instead of 2
