American tank design at the end of the war stood out for its numerous intriguing projects, many of which were given material form but never reached the front. One of these will be coming to War Thunder soon™ in the American tech tree as a premium vehicle – the T29 heavy tank.
The T29 was an experimental vehicle that was designed as a weapon against German heavy tanks at the end of the war. Alas, the prototype took until 1947 to build, at that point the US army no longer had need for such an expensive and heavy tank. But that didn’t mean that all their efforts were wasted: elements of the T29 design were used in the development of almost all later US tanks during the Cold War.
This tank stands out for its size.
Its mass of 64 tons is huge even for a tank of this class. But all this weight didn’t come about by accident: its spacious turret was equipped with a 105mm T5E2 cannon: incredibly powerful and frightening in its appearance alone. Additionally, the tank had impressive armour – almost 300 mm at the front of the turret! The front of the hull was also protected by thick armour plates set at a steep angle, though they were somewhat weaker than those installed at the front end of the German Tiger II. The American tank does looks truly frightening.
But in battle it is, of course, better to rely on its powerful 105mm gun rather than its threatening appearance. This cannon is more than sufficient to send any opponent at the same BR back to the hangar with just one successful hit - the T95 and T28 SPGs have similar guns. The other features of the tank in total allow classic heavy tank strategies to be used: don’t be afraid to expose yourself to the enemy as long as you don’t let them hit the weak spots of your armour, cover medium tanks in attack and use your power to press for an advantage. Just make sure to hide the lower frontal armour plate and turret sides from the enemy.

So will the travel lock on tanks work? Also between the T-32 and Super Pershing ( its armor not working right). This will be 6.7? Will the T-30 be prem too?
I'm a little disappointed that it will be premium, to be fair it is more likely than not more well known than the T32. But I guess we did get the Super Pershing in the main tree. I am a little concerned about the price if this will be that powerful, but I don't think it will be pay-to-win. I do hope something similar to the H8K happens, that would make sense since this prototype is very slightly on the more well known side. The T29E3 would make a good vehicle to come somewhere in the main tree.
Frankly, for a tank like this that never really made it past (maybe) prototype stage, I'm quite content to have it be a premium. I wish Gaijin had done the same with the Super Pershing, but I can understand why they didn't.
I saw that this tank had a BR of 6.7 in the stream. I deeply hope that is WIP. Should it stay at 6.7 then I am very concerned about how you think a tank better than the Tiger 2 in ALL aspects and even better than the Tiger 2 105mm should be at 6.7
First non-Tier 5 premium, Tier 5 Premium in game, congratz Gaijin! :D
Sorry 4th? I've lost count...
You started very well with the Panzer III Ausf. B and the historical cockpits, but I'm reserved on this one. You see, I'm not the type of player who is against premium vehicles. I know that you need money on order to be able to create amazing things, but please let the money come out of vehicles worth adding, like rare historical samples that really made their way into the fight (such as the Porsche Tiger, which is in game). I'm a bit concerned with the experimental/prototype waves coming in.
MEH.. its to flat at the side. so... Premium... oke (positive). Shall I buy it (guess its around 6000GE)... meh..
Gib Marder III Ausf.M, Sturmmörse. Tiger and Brümmbar
they should add in the US TD line as a prem since it was also an experimental tank in testing at the same time as the T29 with the 105mm & the T34 with the 120mm at mid T4 & top Tier 4 maybe bottom T5. With the T30 with a 155mm cannon at Top T5 since it was to be armed with one to kill Maus & the E Series of new german tanks.
Well, now maybe the T95 can borrow some of the 29s ammo. *hint-hint-PUNCH-PUNCH*
Love the look but hate the gun...I sincerely hope you found some kind of APHE shell for that thing.
