The American F-100D Super Sabre supersonic turbo-jet fighter was developed as a fighter-bomber, so in addition to breathtaking speeds, it also features a rich assortment of suspended weaponry. It’s arguably the best American aircraft in the game!
In short: it’s an American supersonic fighter developed for assault and bombing strikes against ground targets. It features unsurpassed speed, 20mm guns with a high rate of fire, and a massive arsenal of guided and unguided weapons.
By the mid-50s,`jet aircraft had become robust machines which had obtained sufficient combat experience for the next step into a fundamentally new age: the era of supersonic speed. Supersonic fighters were developed by both of the main opposing nations of the Cold War. In parallel with the development of the MIG-19 in the USSR, American aircraft designers were putting the finishing touches on their own design for a supersonic fighter. The F-100 Super Sabre entered serial production somewhat later than its Soviet counterpart, but it needed just as many improvements and upgrades.
The F-100’s main problems were its high failure rate and the shortcomings of its control systems. In addition, a fighter-bomber version was also being developed based on the Super Sabre: the F-100D, which featured an increased vertical and horizontal fin area and expanded capabilities with regard to suspended weaponry. In the end, it was the D version that became the most widespread modification of the single-seat Super Sabre thanks to its improved control and excellent combat abilities as either a fighter-bomber or pure fighter. In terms of suspended weaponry, the F-100D was able to carry over twenty extremely varied weapon loadouts, from traditional high-explosive bombs and rockets to air-to-air rockets and nuclear bombs.
In War Thunder, the F-100D Super Sabre will be the first supersonic fighter of rank VI in the American air force research tree. Its very high speed when flying horizontally, and excellent rate of climb, by no means suggest that the F100D can only fly straight, however, its enhanced controls and increased fin area make this aircraft quite obedient and pleasant to fly. The fantastic flying ability of this new top aircraft is supported by excellent weaponry. Four high-speed 20mm M-39A1s with 200 rounds per gun are installed in the Super Saber’s nose section. This is an upgraded version of the FMC T-160, a gun that should be familiar to War Thunder pilots from the F-86F-2 fighter. Its excellent accuracy, low recoil, and extremely high rate of fire make this the best aircraft gun in its class; just keep an eye on your remaining ammo.
The F-100D’s suspended armament is another story. In-game, we’ve selected ten loadouts made up of 500-, 750-, and 1,000-pound high-explosive bombs, unguided Hydra-70 rockets, guided AGM-12 Bullpups, and something entirely new to the game: guided air-to-air AIM-9B Sidewinders. These infrared guided missile will follow the target’s thermal signature, which allows pilots to engage and destroy any airborne target that produces enough heat in flight to be targeted. In practice, this means that a War Thunder pilot can target any jet aircraft, helicopter with a turboshaft engine, or certain piston-engine models with a Sidewinder, and be pretty confident about the results.
The F-100D Saber will be available to all War Thunder players at rank VI in the American aircraft research tree as soon as our huge 1.85 “Supersonic” update launches. Welcome to the supersonic era!

Boyd tested...BOYD APPROVED!
Thanks Gaijin, really loving the patch so far! Btw, could you mess around with jet BRs a bit? They’re still kinda imbalanced.
American toptier is now way to OP
nop
It's not even out yet. But another Jet with AGM scares me.
Any chancer of lowering some planes repair cost like the B29, since, you know, its made out of paper instead of metal now?
So the US get a SECOND excellent ground attacker with an arsenal able to take down half a team in a single flyout while also being a capable fighter, while every other nation is still waiting to get their first one. Amazing decision… in a bad way.
Lol@half a team with only 2 bullpups... amazing comment, in a bad way
Did you even look at the Mig-17 ISh? Did you not see the downward facing rockets? Did you see the Meteor Mk8? Did you not see how many rockets that could carry? Are you blind?
This plane is looking good, as do a lot of early-mid 1950s fighters, but I'm worried it will lead to modern planes. (Which I'm really not a fan of.) Part of WT's charm is its old aircraft. That's what keeps me coming back. If modern fighters are added, I honestly wouldn't see the point in researching that far. (I also think these older jets are much "prettier," than any new jets.) (My opinion likely differs from yours, but this is my opinion.)
you know, you can still play the older planes. they are still there, and they wont face a F-100 super sabre unless you do it deliberatly. there still are over 300 planes in the game. you dont have to play top tier jets. but me and many others do. to each their own.
Question @Warthunder - are we going to see an updated model for the USA Pilot as well? We want a real jet pilot skin :D
Gajin i want the A-10 thunderbolt in the game if possible thank you
me to man, probably at late next year, the alpha testers have been testing these aircraft to see their usefullnes in WT. let's just hope there are counters for them aswell.
how much RP to research ? 1.000.000 ? just a guess....
Hope not! 390.000 are really the max :○
amazing!
