Born on September 24th 1920, Richard Bong was the son of a Swedish immigrant and grew up on a farm in rural Wisconsin. During his career in the US Army Air Force he reached a total of 40 enemy planes shot down, making him the highest scoring American fighter ace of all time.

Kurt Knispel was a German tank ace. His record lists 168 confirmed tank kills, but when unconfirmed victories are included, the total adds up to 195. Even at 168 confirmed, this makes Knispel the most successful tank ace of World War II.
