Our 2024 Roadmap included several interface improvements, and one of them was new reticles for modern tanks with improved elements of the tank’s gun sight systems. Today, we’re pleased to present it to you, not just in an updated form, but in a deeply customized form as well. This new feature will come to the game in the Dance of Dragons major update — let’s take a look!
A new option called “Sight settings” has been added to the Ground vehicle Battle Settings. When clicking on this button, you can create your own configuration of interface elements displayed in the gunner’s sight. Configurations that you create can be saved to individual vehicles or to every vehicle at a selected rank of a specific nation at once so that you don’t have to create a sight for each vehicle one by one. Plus, you can also use any sight on any vehicle in the game (yes, that means you can use the modern US sight on a T-34 if you want!).
The following elements can be customized:
- Grid sight. You can either select it from the grids already available in the game, or install a custom sight ownloaded to the /UserSights/ folder located in the game directory
- Rangefinder indicator
- Turret rotation indicator
- Sight field of view indicator at maximum zoom
- Shot readiness indicator (shows readiness status and reload time)
Interface elements that do not affect aiming can be easily and conveniently dragged around the screen with your mouse cursor. Each element can be viewed in different modes: day, night, with a night vision device or with a thermal imager.

This is just the first version of the customizable aiming sights that will be coming to the game in the Dance of Dragons major update. New elements and additional settings may be added in the future. In the meantime, tell us what you think about this new feature on the official forum or on our social networks!

Wait, so I can set Thermal Sight colour now? Finally I can have historically correct green TOGS thermal on my Challenger 2 TOGS, white BGTI thermal on my Warrior, and red thermal on my Striker, without manually changing them in Options!
it would be nice if you could enable the "org" sight for a tank by default if it is available. We spend a lot of time zoomed in, so an important option to get right. Thanks for making this.
Only think I would like to see is to have two diffrent types of scope example no reticle in wide field of view and ones you zoom in you have your sight or diffrent sight for the day sight and other for the night sight I hope its possible
Great addition
Should also look at allowing customizing the color of the sight. It gets old having to enable night sight every time I spawn
Actually looks frickin amazing
ok this is better than I expected
Fantastic work! Can we have some anime girls pls?
Downtown#1, I am sure live.warthunder.com is a place you are looking for.
Can you make it so ranges for secondary guns can be added? It's a nightmare trying to aim the BMP-3 because you only have range markings for the autocannon and not the low velocity 100mm
