We continue to expand the number of locations represented in War Thunder with every update, and update 1.87 won’t be an exception to that. Today, we’re happy to present to our players a new location for ground battles, set in beautiful Alaska!
Briefly: A new location for ground battles, inspired by the mountain regions of Alaska.
In update 1.87, we’re happy to present a new location for ground battles, set in the stunning mountainous landscape of Alaska. Specifically, players will battle for control over a small Alaskan town and its imminent surroundings, fighting on wide city streets between skyscrapers in one engagement and dense evergreen forests in the other.
The main focus of battles taking place on this location will be centered around the strategic zones situated within the city itself. Depending on the battle type, players may find themselves contesting ground on either the town’s more open outskirts, where lighter vehicles and tank destroyers can especially benefit from better visibility and longer engagement distances, or the city center itself, where the more frantic close-quarters engagements will take place, more suitable for heavy brawlers.
The new Alaska map will become available in ground battles with the release of the upcoming update 1.87. We hope you enjoy it! Until then, stay tuned for more news on the next update coming to War Thunder. We’ll see you in battle!

Looks like WarZ lol
Looks great :) Woud also like some more desert maps. I cant get enough of those. Any French gv's in 1.87?
An intriguing map with incredibly urban terrain in modern era city-scape and not just a generic field no. 21 with village buildings 23A and 25B? As long as this doesn't end up as broken as Vietnam, this looks fascinatingly intriguing.
HYPE! This is awesome and something totally knew. These skyscrapers will be the best anti air :D
*new, missed that typo and can't edit ;-(
The Maps Looks Awesome in my opinion
This brings strong World in Conflict vibes, I love it
Armored vehicles conducting MOUT will always have infantry accompanying them. That is why urban maps are unsuited to this game.
I don't have problem with urban maps if it is balanced.. If you are only in tank and your enemy has only tanks your chances are similar.. If you are in tank and your enemy has ANTI-TANK infantry in town, you have big problem..
Outbr3aq, First tanks in have the advantage. They can sit and ambush around corners. The very reason you dont send tanks in in the first place. Tanks havent been meant as mobile pillboxes in a loooong time.
Guys. What do you think about separating new maps from regular rotation for few days /weeks so players can test it but if it's bad you are not forced to play unbalanced map full of bugs ( like Vietnam for example where if you want use HEAT-FS you should pray to Jesus so your shell will not hit some invisible leaf.. or that weir mountain spot)
They should separate maps like big Fulda, Big Sinai etc... to tanks of rank 5+ and other urban maps like Berlin or Rhine for ranks 4- ...
This looks like a really fun map, however, it is obviously for the Cold War era. So I must ask: will it be of a worthy size for Rank V-VII, with 700-1500 HP engined main battle tanks with 90-125mm stabilized guns with high velocity ammunition and CE ammunition to penetrate multi-hundreds of mm of armour at any range and angle, optical and 5 km laser rangefinders, 2-5km ranged ATGMs, with helicopter support with ATGM ranges of 8 km? This isn’t even accounting that we don’t have as of now NV,...
I do wish the best for this map. Maps have all been visually excellent but even the oldest ground maps are almost unrecognizable today from when they were first released presumably because they were terribly designed in the first place and people still complain about them.
