The Challenger Mk.3 is an upgraded modification of the well-known British Challenger MBT, introducing, most notably, additional reactive armour elements to bolster the vehicle’s protection against HEAT rounds. Meet the new and improved Challenger MBT coming to War Thunder as part of the upcoming update 1.85!
Briefly: An upgraded modification of the Challenger MBT with add-on ERA elements that boost the vehicle’s protection.
Several updates ago, we introduced the mighty Challenger Mk 2 MBT to the top rank of the British ground forces tree, giving British tankers their own modern high performance MBT, as a counter to other nation’s vehicles with similar performance. In the upcoming update 1.85, we are pleased to present a new modification of the revered Challenger Mk 2, sporting additional ERA and composite armour packs that increase the vehicle’s protection.
The overall performance of the new Challenger Mk.3 doesn’t change compared to the existing Mk.2 already available in War Thunder. The vehicle still uses the same engine, suspension, gun, ammunition and armour layout. However, what does separate the Mk.3 from the Mk.2 is the addition of add-on ERA and composite armour elements to the front and sides of the vehicle’s hull.
The add-on ERA packs cover the vehicle’s lower front glacis plates, thus greatly increasing protection against HEAT rounds. The vehicle’s simple metal sheet side skirts were also replaced with composite armour screens on the front and rear portions of the hull sides, whereas ERA blocks cover the centre, offering increased protection for the fighting compartment against HEAT rounds. Additionally, all ammunition is now stowed in armoured bins on the Challenger Mk.3, thus decreasing the chances of a penetrating shot igniting the stowed rounds.
Overall, the Challenger Mk.3 offers improved protection against enemy fire and greatly increases survivability compared to the familiar Mk.2 model. We’re sure that seasoned Challenger drivers will make excellent use of the this new addition to their top tier lineup!
Be sure to try out the new Challenger Mk.3 main battle tank, coming to the top rank of the British ground forces tree with the upcoming War Thunder update 1.85. In the meantime, stay tuned to the news to see what else update 1.85 has in store for you. Until then, happy hunting tankers!

Good now UK is more competitive. Don't forget France too, we need some love pls :)
LE LECLERC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not more competitive because we are not going to bother lol, screw the pay to play mechanics and screw the months of grinding for a single vehicle.
Also does this mean challenger MK2 and now MK3 is getting its real minimum armour value's on the turret and UFP of 500mm ? Bug reports were made and sent to the Devs months ago does this mean it's armour getting fixed ?
its not bugged its just the fact that when facing western tanks a neat feature from irl is in the game western tanks use long rod penetrators this means the higher the angle the more penetration (take their max angle pen and double it thats their real pen) this means the type 90 has around 510 mm pen at 60 degrees armor the steeper the more pen this was done by western nations to counter russians this means the heavely angled 500mm on the challenger can be penned because its angled thus
chrkiiler, the western tanks are able to pen its armor for example the leopard 2s pen is around 250 at 60 degrees when it "only" has 433 mm flat pen but at angles if we take the 250 number and double it it gets 500 pen on armor angled at 60 degrees the more you angle the more pen it gets this is the reason why the challenger 2s turret can be penned by most western tanks the russians cant because they dont use long rod penetrators thus dont have this (this is intirely realistic and this happends irl)
So an entire new vehicle for what should REALLY just be a modification? hmm...
No L26 is greatly disappointing. The L26 wouldn't be better than the JM33 or OFL 120. The L23A1 is worse than the DM23 but the 2A4 is faster, greater survivability (than mk2 at least) and has a shorter reload. I'm not asking for every tank to be point and click. The Challenger is slow, doesn't have its hydro-gas suspension, unrealistic reload, and is paper in all areas but the turret. I love my Chally Mk2 right now but it isn't as it should be and the mk3 will be even more sad without the L26.
Just some addon protection like on the T62 and T80 therefore it will be modification for mk2, right?..... Nooooooo! 380k RP for some bricks. I dont really like grinding another top tier tank but what else can I (as a tea lover) do.
Also.. same ammunition..Prepare for god damn stock APDS. yaaay
At least you have another vehicle.. meanwhile France only have the AMX-40
Where is L26 Jericho?
Please clarify if L26 is included in this tank
This thing better have a stock apfsds cuz otherwise it's not worth the grind. the era is not going to do anything anyway since it either won't have enough protection to stop heat rounds or you just get shot by apfsds rounds.
Well this is completely pointless. You guys might not know it but nobody uses HEAT at top tier. This is by far the most underwhelming devblog ever. What happened to the Vickers Mk 7 or any of the multitude of tanks suggested in the forums? They would have been leagues better than this
Um and all the ATGM Helis don't use HEAT eh?
It had better KE protection too, it's not the same tank in terms of composite armor as well.
