The T-64BV is a new researchable modification for the T-64B tanks, which adds a reactive set in War Thunder update 1.79. Pimp the tank!
In short: a new modification for the T-64B which makes your favourite tank even cooler! The Kontakt ERA set adds excellent defense to the hull and turret against ATGMs and HE shells.
In the early 1960s, the USSR held successful tests of reactive armour against explosive force, and by the early 1980s, a unified set of reactive add-on armour called Kontakt was ready to boost the defenses of the current tank fleet, and for installation on new vehicle models. Among the tanks which successfully completed state tests of the new reactive configuration was the medium T-64B tank, which was later modernized and given a new designation: the T-64BV.
In our game, the T-64B is a hero of high-rank tank battles. The vehicle has complex combined protection for hull and turret which does a good job of absorbing the energy of kinetic shells and even some chemical rounds. Thanks to the reactive add-on armour, the T-64BV is able to withstand hits from the most powerful HEAT shells and ATGMs of the HOT series - in the case where the hit occurs in the zone of maximum protection on the tank. At the same time, the reactive blocks are destroyed when shells hit them from volleys of high-calibre machine guns or automatic anti-air cannons. Demolition bomb explosions can even “blow off” the reactive blocks from whole area on the tank, so the new system is far from a panacea against enemy fire.
Fun fact: in the War Thunder team, there is a joke that the BV index in this tank’s designation are the initials of our lead game designer Bulannikov Vyacheslav, and of course, this tank will be impossible to destroy.
The upgrades to the T-64BV version will be implemented in the form of a researchable modification for the T-64B tank in War Thunder update 1.79. After researching this modification, the tank’s appearance will change, but any camouflage, decals or decorative items installed will remain.

If the modification is installed, it increases the armor of the tank. Should this not mean that installing the armor upgrade would INCREASE the BR of the tank?
Well it gains protection but looses/sacrisfices mobility, so it is balanced.
SPANISH_AVENGER, I doubt it sacrifices any mobility compared to the base model, complet set probably weighs less than 200kg
I wonder why it isn't a separate vehicle like the M60A1 RISE. Because the thing is, a vehicle is usually balanced by its fully upgraded performance, so the stronger a vehicle gets with its upgrades, the higher its BR and therefore the worse its stock grind.
maybe they change its br... if it was a german tank... i would bet that the br would change... russian tank, not so sure
The situation with the M60a1 is different. It has a few minor differences and is not just simply an M60A1 with ERA. Not only this, but there are plenty more options for other rank VI machines for the USSR compared to the US at the M60A1 RISE's BR.
Why the m60a1 doesn't have that modification? (I mean the one that adds ERA)
because the m60 is not russian
Silly goose, because it's american! How else would they harvest gold from the whales that want Abrams and now probably M1A1 Abrams? By adding filler crap tanks!
If BV ERA bricks are a module, why you haven't added Brenus as a B2 mod ? it's illogical
its even illogical to make a whole dev blog about a modification.
Because the BV doesn't have anything other than reactive armor added. The BRENUS gets a new Mack V8 engine compared to the original B2 and oh boy trust me, at least comparing these two... it makes a big difference. Even though they are still usable, I would argue that they might need to step down in BR. Or in the case of the BRENUS, give the better G2 APFSDS round. For the RISE Patton, it's mostly because it gets APFSDS on top ERA, just as it would be the case for the BRENUS if they added the G2
RIP Heat fs Leo 2k
Oh Lord KMW give us the Leopard 2A5 and Lord Rheinmetall give us the DM33 APFSDS to strike down uppon the Commies with vegence and furious anger!
Asgar1205, meant to say 2A4
Why do the Soviets get this, which increases armor protection as a researchable, while the French and US get it as a sepperate vehicle, NOT TO MENTION that if THIS is considered a small upgrade, then why do we have such tanks as the Chieftain Mk 1 and Mk 3 as different vehicles when the only real difference is that the Mk 3 has slightly more HP?
Because it's Russian.
You meant Chieftain Mk 3 and Mk 5 but yeah I agree. At least change the Mk 5 to Mk 5/4 so that it gets the APFSDS.
Well this will be really interesting.. The t64b`s biggest weakness is its poor protection against CE rounds, but not anymore
Well to be honest it will only help against the first rounds fired at it. No ability to reapply it it will basically get shot off immediately. And HEAT-FS round will take away a large portion of it and even APDSFS will take out modules. I guess the 57mm of the Bagelpanzer could be very useful to remove those modules now, maybe even the Gepard SPAA. Side will be still extremley vulnerable and APDSFS will basically be unaffected.
Nah its that fact that it can never survive a side shot

Update 1.79 "Pimp My Tank" ???? BEST NAME EVER
I thought i was going crazy when i saw that...funny though how pimps are brutal towards competition and brutal to women yet the say the historical SS and swastika on some vehicles is "offensive"
FEGALEIN, The swastika is illegal in many countries outside educational purposes.. There is more than just it being offensive.
Researchable upgrade? I feel sorry for those that have to research the M60 RISE and the AMX-30B2 BRENUS separately.
The rise doesn't only adds some boxes on the tank, you also have a new gun and ammo, but i agree with the brenus...
_Sprix_, The brenus gets better engine so you can't say that about the brenus either
