The T-64BV is a new researchable modification for the T-64B tanks, which adds a reactive set in War Thunder update 1.79. Pimp the tank!
In short: a new modification for the T-64B which makes your favourite tank even cooler! The Kontakt ERA set adds excellent defense to the hull and turret against ATGMs and HE shells.
In the early 1960s, the USSR held successful tests of reactive armour against explosive force, and by the early 1980s, a unified set of reactive add-on armour called Kontakt was ready to boost the defenses of the current tank fleet, and for installation on new vehicle models. Among the tanks which successfully completed state tests of the new reactive configuration was the medium T-64B tank, which was later modernized and given a new designation: the T-64BV.
In our game, the T-64B is a hero of high-rank tank battles. The vehicle has complex combined protection for hull and turret which does a good job of absorbing the energy of kinetic shells and even some chemical rounds. Thanks to the reactive add-on armour, the T-64BV is able to withstand hits from the most powerful HEAT shells and ATGMs of the HOT series - in the case where the hit occurs in the zone of maximum protection on the tank. At the same time, the reactive blocks are destroyed when shells hit them from volleys of high-calibre machine guns or automatic anti-air cannons. Demolition bomb explosions can even “blow off” the reactive blocks from whole area on the tank, so the new system is far from a panacea against enemy fire.
Fun fact: in the War Thunder team, there is a joke that the BV index in this tank’s designation are the initials of our lead game designer Bulannikov Vyacheslav, and of course, this tank will be impossible to destroy.
The upgrades to the T-64BV version will be implemented in the form of a researchable modification for the T-64B tank in War Thunder update 1.79. After researching this modification, the tank’s appearance will change, but any camouflage, decals or decorative items installed will remain.

i used to pretend those gas tanks addons were ERA armour back in the day... now i got the real thing
Would be awesome if we had aircraft that could do anything to these high tiered tanks. How about some 1980s aircraft and air to ground missiles?
Owww hard to balance, and hard to have an interesting gameplay. Devs tested (and are still testing) a lot of options but it's complicated.
So bombs and current rockets are not enough to wreck stuff in Ground Forces?
Does the BR get increased, then? Because, this won't make any sense to be at the same BR anymore if the modification is installed. Additionally, why doesn't the M60 get ERA as a modification and is instead a separate vehicle? Nonsense.
but why the m60a1 doesn't have a modification like this? Why we must research a new tank that only difference is that it has ERA?
What's with everyone saying "increase the BR, it'll be OP at its current BR."? It makes no sense, its just a modification, the world revolves around the sun, not you. :D
Then all the vehicles with APCR and HEATFS researchable should be reduced back to original BR's ie M46
Needs to get it's BR raised - this is unfair to every other nation because they don't even have to research a new vehicle to get, well... a new vehicle!
4km/h reverse rate.. My main reason I don't play this very much and laugh at them.
Alright! Woo! So excited to research my 380,000 RP tank on the US line while the russkies get to research ERA for the low low price of about 32,000 Rp.. Seriously? The RISE P needs to be 8.0 then at this point, there is a reason its one of the least played tanks in the game...
Well the E.R.A. protection is very interesting for HEAT shells, but at this b.r. everybody uses Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot Fin Stabilized, so its kind of not really worth it, the Brenus or the M60 RISE is a good example how the b.r. could be lethal for E.R.A. tanks, the T64b has better armour, so it will be maybe a plus indeed versus HEAT's, will see, nice model anyway and nice work as usual.
The tank is already basically immune to all kinetic rounds in game, its biggest weakness WAS its low CE resistance as the Leo 2K could cut right through. Although irl, Kontakt-5 armor was designed to counter CE and KE shells.
Any ideas when you guys are going to fix the ATGMs flicking all over the place. I have the STRV since it launched, loved that tank. Bought the AMX-13 SS.11 recently and finally got into ATGMs since it got changed to server based only to discover that it is UNUSABLE. ATGMs are completely shit for me, if play with them on a test ride, it is fine, everything works properly, but as soon as i join a game, they start flickering like crazy. I know lots and lots of people have the same problem...
