The Soviet T-62 medium tank is one of the most exciting vehicles to arrive with War Thunder 1.61 "Road to Glory"
Let’s meet this new top-tier Soviet medium tank!
The Soviet T-62 medium tank is the direct successor to the T-55 and T-54, but was, unlike either of them, created to fight directly against enemy armoured vehicles. A tank with a job like this is first of all a cannon – and it was with the cannon that the development of the T-62 began. By the end of the 50s, it became clear that Soviet tanks were no longer capable of confidently fighting the latest tanks from the West on an equal footing. This led to a decision in 1959 to perform experimental design works with a view to mounting a 115 mm cannon in the turret of a T-55 medium tank. After tests in the factory and on the training ground, the vehicle was designated the T-62 and the first series rolled off the production line as early as 1961. The tank turned out to be a great success – roughly 20,000 vehicles of this model were produced, and the several countries friendly to the USSR purchased a license to produce them.
The T-62 has been in the pipeline for War Thunder for a long time, since the tank’s chassis served as a base for several other very interesting vehicles from the Cold War era. One of them, the IT-1 missile vehicle, we presented in a previous update, War Thunder 1.59: Flaming Arrows. Now it’s time for the T-62 itself to burst onto the battlefield in War Thunder.

The T-62 will take a top-tier position in War Thunder in the Soviet medium tank tech tree, immediately after the T-54 tanks. The T-62 has identical armour to the T-54 and comparable mobility, but a more powerful cannon, with two types of armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot shells (APFSDS), high-explosive shells, and of course, hollow-charge non-rotating shells with the ability to pierce armour up to 440 mm in thickness. The high caliber of the cannon has its cost in the form of increased reload time, amounting to a 12 seconds for an experienced crew.
The T-62’s chief opponent in the game will be the top-tier tanks of the US and Great Britain, primarily the M60, M60A1 and the Chieftain Mk III, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages in comparison to the T-62. As for which tank is to become the most effective in high-ranked battles, that’s up to the players – to the front, tankers! See you in War Thunder update 1.61 "Road to Glory"!

what for the french tanks ? i love the amx 50 120
Gaijin, since you've taken the 'wisest' decision to add this tank, will we get a tank to counter this beast of Russian bias?
there already are, M60a1, Leo, Chieftain III.... the armor is identical to the T-54 afaik so you can still easily penetrate it with those tanks.
you guys have the Leopard 1, Chieftain mk 3 and M60A1 for now, and it is very likely that they are going to add the leopard 1A1 in this update too. so soontm
will Britain and Germany too will recieve another tier 5 MBT? if so what how will they be balanced in-game? (BR 9.0 maybe?) BTW plz add british main tree ATeaGM plz !!
Germany has the Leopard 1 (and may get another model), US now has M60 and M60A1, and the UK has the Chieftain. All the other nations can counteract the T-62, besides it has the same armour as the T-54
Blitzgamer_90, yes the only difference is this t62 might have the 242mm turret face.
more leopards anyone?
sounds good, you add another tank with the mushroom turret like T54,T10M and IT 1
So this is the first tank to get APFSDS.. I expect that the other tanks get APFSDS now as well.
Most likely they won't, because L7, L11 got their APFSDS after 1970s
If it wont be 9.0BR i will delete this game. i already got enough from T-10 seal clubbing when it was 7.7 for months in RB
Lol, this this looks to be quite mediocre, basically a less mobile Leopard 1 with 2.5 x longer reload, and bad gun depression.
Necrons31467, Thats not the point, point is i have zero will to grind with stock tanks against full lineups of cold war tanks. Its already suffering to play 7+ BR stock tanks especially US ones against 8.0 lineups. if this cancer gets placed at 8/8.3 than the game will be unplayable mess just like it was playing 6.7 tanks against 10+ T10 tanks every single game Also germans have one tank for their engame lineup yes its the best tank in game. but when Soviets can field 3+ just as great tanks in their lineup
Why is the reload 19 seconds? I know it states that 19 seconds is for an inexperienced crew, but there's no way you can get it anywhere close to the 6 rounds per minute MINIMUM firerate I see listed everywhere. With an expert crew I estimate 15-16 seconds. Whilst a real life expert crew would have been able to to it in 6. Every source so far has stated that as the maximum firerate.
I do realize the russian source on the forum post lists 4-5 seconds. I guess gaijin is basing of off of that one then.
njits23, 4-5 rounds per minute, not seconds. Where's the edit option!
440mm pen ? , does that mean ALL tanks will get REAL penatrations now or this tank is the ONLY exception ?
What tanks have inaccurate penetration? I know the M103s AP shot is too low, but I'm not sure about what else.
F7UCutlass, Chiefatn APDS is missing a a chunk apparently
German's Leopard 1A1 or 1A5 when?? :))))
A5 isnt confirmed 1A1 should be next dev blog I imagine
