American tank design at the end of the war stood out for its numerous intriguing projects, many of which were given material form but never reached the front. One of these will be coming to War Thunder soon™ in the American tech tree as a premium vehicle – the T29 heavy tank.
The T29 was an experimental vehicle that was designed as a weapon against German heavy tanks at the end of the war. Alas, the prototype took until 1947 to build, at that point the US army no longer had need for such an expensive and heavy tank. But that didn’t mean that all their efforts were wasted: elements of the T29 design were used in the development of almost all later US tanks during the Cold War.
This tank stands out for its size.
Its mass of 64 tons is huge even for a tank of this class. But all this weight didn’t come about by accident: its spacious turret was equipped with a 105mm T5E2 cannon: incredibly powerful and frightening in its appearance alone. Additionally, the tank had impressive armour – almost 300 mm at the front of the turret! The front of the hull was also protected by thick armour plates set at a steep angle, though they were somewhat weaker than those installed at the front end of the German Tiger II. The American tank does looks truly frightening.
But in battle it is, of course, better to rely on its powerful 105mm gun rather than its threatening appearance. This cannon is more than sufficient to send any opponent at the same BR back to the hangar with just one successful hit - the T95 and T28 SPGs have similar guns. The other features of the tank in total allow classic heavy tank strategies to be used: don’t be afraid to expose yourself to the enemy as long as you don’t let them hit the weak spots of your armour, cover medium tanks in attack and use your power to press for an advantage. Just make sure to hide the lower frontal armour plate and turret sides from the enemy.

Instead of the T29 the US should get the T30 with its 155mm gun.
Will we see the T30 or the T34 too? Will they be available to research since the T29 is premium
Seems like a reasonable premium addition; apon mentioning that, I would expect resistance for that opinion. In some photos of the T29, it had track armor on it's turret, will we be seeing that?
I'm a little sad it doesn't have the coincident rangefinder "ears." Although, would the rangefinder module be available on this, perhaps taking longer and giving a less accurate reading than the later laser rangefinders? That way we could have the iconic ears.
Looks awesome, wont be buying tho. Doesn't seem Pay to Win at all, It has that god awful 105 from the T-95 and is very slow, turret armor is very impressive, should make a great hull down vehicle. This was the first sneak peak, and if they are saving the best till last I cant wait to see whats coming next. Great job on this one Gaijin :)
Well its not that slow, it has acceptable speed and its gun is the only T4 gun that can penetrate tiger 2 UFP. Also should they give it the T13 APCBCHE round, it will be a monster.
Is there any chance we'll see a version in tech tree, perhaps the version with naval rangefinders? There's a good chance T29 would have gone into production had the war not ended, as the 105mm was better liked than the 155/120mms.
I swear this game is being developed by Accountants.. All they can think of is how to get more money.......
Well i was already expecting alot of bombardment for this thing being premium and i was also disappointed US Heavy Tank line need to fill a gap ASAP and not only that you compare it to T26E1-1 with non-existent welded armor is basically useless sometimes in its BR and just pray to god of RNG for good lucky bounces... and T32 the overtiered long reload crap tank? where it is basically being forced to play like a crap in that BR 7.3 ha. But then again you made your decision wont complain anymore
"This cannon is more than sufficient to send any opponent at the same BR back to the hangar with just one successful hit." So, what's the BR of T29 ?
What' s the BR of T29 ? After you declared that the cannon of T29 " is more than sufficient to send any opponent at the same BR back to the hangar with just one successful hit".
In the stream, the stat card placed it at 6.7.
