On August 10th, 1945, the day following the Nagasaki bombing, Japan accepted the Allies’ conditions for surrender. On August 15th Emperor Hirohito addressed his nation in an unprecedented broadcast, and on September 2nd an official surrender ceremony took place. This date is considered to mark the final end of World War II.

Aircraft created during that decade quickly became the mainstays of the air forces of their respective countries. They were used till the very end of the Second World War – and their late variants formed the pantheon of the best piston engine aircraft ever made. Today we’re going to speak about one of those iconic designs – the numerous marks of the Spitfire, the winged knights that guarded the skies of the British Empire.

Andrea Doria: The Dreadnought of the Mediterranean

Andrea Doria is one of the two dreadnought battleships constructed for the Regia Marina in the early 1910s and represents an improved version of the preceding Conte di Cavour class. Skink: The Bird-eating Lizard

The Skink is an experimental Canadian self-propelled anti-aircraft unit, developed on the basis of the Grizzly medium tank. Designed with the sole purpose of shielding Allied units from hostile air attack, the highly anticipated Skink is finally making its way to the game, arriving as part of the next major War Thunder update!

The M4 Sherman was the workhorse tank of the US Army during WW2, and one of the most produced tanks in history. It performed really well in any theatres of war it was involved in, and its variants remained an effective counter to the German armour till the very end of the war. All in all, almost 50,000 Shermans rolled off the factory floor. Furthermore, in War Thunder, the Sherman is one of the most widely used vehicles, with almost every nation having at least a single variant of the iconic tank at their disposal. So today we’re talking about the Shermans.
