We’ve been made aware of many of your requests for smaller teams in Air Realistic Battles as 16v16 teams are sometimes overwhelming in terms of the number of missiles at once.
With the release of the upcoming major update, we’ll be adding an option to the Air Realistic Battles game selection window where you’ll be able to turn on smaller team sizes.
This mechanic works in the same way as turning on the option for night battles: if there’s enough players in the queue with this option enabled, you’ll have a chance of getting into an air battle with smaller team sizes.
When this option is enabled, you’ll have the chance of getting into a battle with smaller team sizes (min - max: 6 - 12) instead of a regular battle (min - max: 6 - 16). Further adjustments in the future are possible depending on how sessions go.
This will only be for aircraft with a Battle Rating of 10.0 or higher, where high-end air-to-air missiles are far more prevalent.
Thank you for your feedback on this and we hope that this option for smaller teams will make your experience in Air Realistic Battles more enjoyable. Be sure to enable this option with the release of the major update!

@Stona_WT, did the Devs or the team say why they feel like 6-12 is the better approach vs an 8v8 mode?
This is definitely a great start to addressing top tier air, but I feel like it’s still too high. At the VERY most, it should be a 10 vs 10. 8 vs 8 would probably be best though
Considering everyone want smaller teams, why not 6-12, or even better 6-10, as the normal battle and larger team size optional?
I like this idea, but I feel with top tier especially with the fox3s I think it should be teams of 8 because everyone is gonna be using fox3s, which in numbers terms mean we would only see a max of 96 fox3s (assuming every aircraft on carries 6), but 16 v 16 would equal 192 fox3 missiles. but I love to see the progress
I want it to be a hard toggle, not a "chance"
why can not be like the esport 4v4 games - mini map?
Everyone saying the teams of up to 12v12 are still too big, remember that this is at least a step in the right direction. It's still a 25% reduction and 30-40 less missiles to worry about. Frequent small changes make a better experience than huge changes every few months. Lets see how this works out first :)
Thank you gaijin for listening to the air community, hoping for many more changes to the game mode as it has been the same objectives for many years and I’ve been playing since ps4 beta!!
Honestly, this change is moving in the right direction, but my main concern is, does it go far enough? I largely don't play top tier Air RB because even 12 players per team feels way too hectic. If it was 10 or 8 players per team, maybe it would be better, but I feel like 12 is still too much.
