The iconic Boeing B-17 bombers will receive an updated exterior in the upcoming Direct Hit update!
Comparison of the updated and the old version of the B-17 model:
Dear Pilots! We continue to work on improving the external models of War Thunder’s vehicles. In the next big update, Direct Hit, we will introduce a new look for true veterans of the game - the Boeing B-17 series heavy bombers!
American B-17 bombers, nicknamed "Flying Fortresses" for their devastating defensive armament, appeared in the War Thunder many years ago during the closed beta testing. Since then, a lot of work has been done to the flight model and armament of these aircraft, but the appearance of the American giants is clearly outdated.
In the upcoming update, we will introduce updated exterior models for all B-17 bombers in the game, including the trophy bomber aircraft in the Japanese tech tree. The number of polygons on the updated models tripled, and the textures became 4 times larger.
And one more piece of good news for pilots - a detailed model of the cockpit for the German He 111 H-16 bomber, which was created for you by your fellow War Thunder player Timur _PtaXa_ Taniya under the revenue share program, will be added to the game. Try yourself at creating models for War Thunder! Read the details here.

nice update for the model, but any changes for the damage model, flying fortresses are not that much fortresses but ez targets for any interceptor tha
t only need a few hits to get the beast down
foxmeup, More like a single, or 2 hits of 20 mm Minengschoss, and the wings says bye, lol. Reports said it would need to be hit with about 20 of them, for it to start falling.
Improve the game, this is what faithful warriors like me (who play since 2014) wants. Well done!
The Old Guard want a revamp of air rb because it has made bombers useless and matches tend to be the same thing over and over again air rb ec is needed
Cawws, no dynamic maps like norway anymore, all copy paste stuff :(
Awesome to see. Did they update the structural strength Too?
Hopefully but I doubt it sadly
Awesome! Thanks for the upgrades to the B-17, much appreciated. However, I find it hard to believe War Thunder is well into its ninth year and yet the iconic American Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber is no where to be seen! Why? By the way, it had the lowest loss rate of all bombers flown in WW2's European Theatre. It was flown by the USA, Britain and the South African Air Force and in considerable numbers. It should at least be a premium offering.
I agree, I'd love to see the B-26. My uncle flew 75 missions in one during WW2 and I'm currently building one in Blender. If I can build a fairly accurate model in a couple of weeks, an hour here and an hour there, surely Gaijin's experienced artists should be able to knock one out in no time at all. Ans while they are at it, how about a B-17 C or D. I'd love to see "The Swoose" ingame!
Mr_Ziggy, IIRC, Gaijin buys models, they don't have anyone in-house that makes them, though that was a while back in that case.
Good to see some love for old models in the game.
As the B-17G is my favorite plane in all of history, I really appreciate the update. Now if only I could actually play it without being obliterated by every plane in the game.
Great now they're extra pretty RP & SL pinata's.
Lovely as always! Thanks.
Gaijin, fix the artillery, dammit! Its too overpowered at the moment. I've been dying to artillery spam in every 2 out of 3 battles.
Raiden_Black, Stop spamming this plz. The artillery is fine your just unlucky.
Great. Speaking of iconic planes: are there any plans for updating the models of the Bf 109F, G and Ks?
A very welcome updated model! Next ones: the Sparvieros for Italy.
YESSSS.... and maybe we could get the S.M.79 Series 4 and S.M.79 bis/n The two that didn't get ported over from the German Tree. I think they would make great event/premium vehicles.
