An improved version of the French wheeled tank, equipped with a deadly 90mm gun with HEATFS shells!
E.B.R. (1963), light tanks. France, rank IV. Premium
Pros
- High max speed
- Reversible transmission
- Premium bonuses
Cons
- Weak armor
- Poor mobility on unpaved ground
A series of French Panhard E.B.R. reconnaissance armored vehicles developed from 1945 by Panhard-Levassor on the basis of a pre-war prototype armored car. The chassis of this series is made with an 8x8 wheel layout, while the first and final wheelsets are steerable, and the two middle axles with metal uplifting wheels are fixed. The vehicle's transmission is reversible, making it possible for E.B.R. to move forward and backward at the same speeds - most vehicles in the series have an additional drivers post at the rear. In total, over the years of production, the Panhard-Levassor company produced more than 1,200 E.B.R. armored vehicles, with almost all of them equipped with a swinging turret of the FL 10 type and a 75 mm caliber gun. In 1963, a modernization program was adopted, which included replacing the gun with a more powerful 90 mm CN 90 F2. Within this program, about 650 vehicles were modernized. For a long time the Panhard E.B.R. served as the main armored car of the French army and was actively supplied to satellites of France on the African continent, Portugal and Indonesia. The combat vehicle took part in a number of armed conflicts, such as the War of Independence of Algeria, the colonial war of Portugal, the war in the Western Sahara and others. The E.B.R. was in service with the French army until the 1970’s, in a number of African countries the vehicle was in service even beyond the 2000’s.
The first armored vehicles of the E.B.R. series appeared in War Thunder during the winter marathon “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.”. The nimble scouts with a 75mm cannon and an automatic loader took the heart of our tankers for their excellent mobility on solid ground and impressive fire potential, when the annoying French quickly outflanked a group of opponents and could quickly disable several targets from the side and rear. The 75mm APC rounds had problems with the penetration of particularly tough targets from the front, and the Soviet heavy tanks or German self-propelled guns of the late period of the war remained a difficult target for the French car. The Model E.B.R. (1963) retains most of the the positive features of the earlier version and offers the commanders a new, more powerful 90 mm gun with HEATFS shells as the main means of destruction of armored vehicles. The same high speed, reversible transmission, a swinging turret - plus a new cannon with HE and HEATFS shells with more than 300 mm of armor penetration, regardless of the firing distance. In battles where the E.B.R. (1963) is about to participate, the combined protection or ERA armor sets are quite rare, therefore HEATs are definitely a good choice for almost any purpose. Do not forget to improve the skills of the driver and loader, as well as increase the general skill of the selected crew, so that the E.B.R. (1963) should fully show what it is capable of!
Together with the benefits from an early version, the E.B.R. (1963) gained some disadvantages. First, the armor is light: At the thickest part (the frontal projection of the turret), the armor thickness is just over 50mm. Secondly, the wheels: like other wheeled vehicles, the E.B.R. (1963) gets bogged down in snow, sand and mud. Choose your route carefully and keep to the roads and asphalt, where the high-speed potential of the armored car is fully revealed, both when moving forward and backward.
The E.B.R. (1963) is an excellent light tank that can be yours for progressing in the new season of the War Thunder Battle Pass named after this vehicle “Fearless Voltigeur”! Follow our news for a complete list of challenges and descriptions of the main prizes of the new season!

The second EBR in game, yet both are non-tech tree?
Yep, nice job gaijin at putting mass-produced vehicles into BPs and events!
All answers (5)SoloWing_Makarov, Every single battle pass has had mass produced vehicles. T-10A, P-63, Toldi IIA, Centurion Mk 5. Stop whining about pointless stuff that's happened before as if it's a whole new thing.
Germany: first time?
TikerFighter, They locked a vehicle that the player's has been waiting for, for around since ground came out as a game mode, behind another paywall, like seriously, I'm pretty sure the entire player base is very dissapointed with this
Why is this locked behind a battle pass? Panhard E.B.R.s were produced in thousands and would really help the French tree that is lacking around those BRs, yet you make odd prototypes like HSTV-L or the Radkampfwagen tech tree vehicles for major, fleshed out trees... This makes 0 sense
I find the choice of Battlepass vehicles quite odd so far. Both of these were prime TT candidates to complement existing hard to get premiums.
All answers (1)Conte_Baracca, that is not such a big deal for this one, there is already plenty alternative armored car with 90mm gun for France. like 5-6 of them who have similar firepower, protection and mobility
Simple. They are desperate to get people to pay for Battlepass.
All answers (3)Wolf_89, They are so desperate for people to buy this battlepass that they... gave you the option to make it free if you bought and played the previous one?
why release another EBR as a limited premium? you haven't even fixed the mobility issues with the METAL wheels literally being made out of rubber ingame and offering no additional traction. seriously, whats the point? just release another broken variant of a vehicle that people actually want to see in the regular tree lol
Disappointment is real, man.
I'm conflicted with this, yet another "premium" EBR, don't get me wrong, I'm all for wheeled vehicles, but we really need a tech tree EBR for France at some point Gaijin.
why?
All answers (3)Jalquin, Because the only two EBR's we have, are currently battlepass vehicles.
This doesn't have any autoloader.
SoloWing_Makarov, doesn't matter, it's still better placed in the tech tree
"Secondly, the wheels: like other wheeled vehicles, the E.B.R. (1963) gets bogged down in snow, sand and mud" Do the two large inner metal wheels mean nothing to the snail? Also jesus christ get a better idea for a BP vehicle lmao
Yesterday I drove my rather light, 8 wheeled SARC Mk VI at ~50 km/h around uneven terrain and even beach but once I reached a mere 20cm deep water he went in 2 seconds from 50 to a crawling 10 km/h. Not only does that feel a little extreme, the height of the waterline doesnt seem to play a role at the speed at all in War Thunder, which feels rather weird.
Well it sure didn't mean much to the vehicle in real life. Fun fact, the Panhard EBR, despite its wheels, could only attain 25 kmh over rough and uneven ground. Despite the intent of the wheels it still didn't help much.
All answers (1)Rokkerboyy, yes rough and uneven ground, meanwhile vehicles like the R3 are able to go nearly 3 times as fast across an open field in game. When going through mud the EBR should be able to hit 25 but if it's going across a grassy field it should be able to go much faster. Not to mention that the transmission is still scuffed for the EBR we already have.

All answers (3)SPANISH_AVENGER, i'm sorry my obviously idiotic spelling didn't get through you, please go back to making fake MBTs and leave people alone
And what exactly, is wrong with minor nations getting more vehicles? The Big 4 (US, Germany, Russia, UK) are already very good trees and very fleshed out.
All answers (1)OniYoshihiro, @OniYoshihiro you completely missed the point French_Boi made here, he and many of us are angry about this(yes ANGRY) because gaijin telling us for years that minor nations dont have enough vehicles to extend their tech trees as much as the big 4 have, yet here we are, getting another version of a MASS-PRODUCED french wheeled armored scout that was used extensively by france as a time-restricted premium vehicle instead of getting it into the tech tree, at a BR where france needs tech tree stuff.
This, pardon my wording, is complete and utter bullshit. EBR's were some of the most mass produced vehicles France ever made, All, with maybe the exception of 1 for profit, should have been in the TT. Next thing we know we will get the Leclerc XXI as an event vehicle.
