An improved version of the French wheeled tank, equipped with a deadly 90mm gun with HEATFS shells!
E.B.R. (1963), light tanks. France, rank IV. Premium
Pros
- High max speed
- Reversible transmission
- Premium bonuses
Cons
- Weak armor
- Poor mobility on unpaved ground
A series of French Panhard E.B.R. reconnaissance armored vehicles developed from 1945 by Panhard-Levassor on the basis of a pre-war prototype armored car. The chassis of this series is made with an 8x8 wheel layout, while the first and final wheelsets are steerable, and the two middle axles with metal uplifting wheels are fixed. The vehicle's transmission is reversible, making it possible for E.B.R. to move forward and backward at the same speeds - most vehicles in the series have an additional drivers post at the rear. In total, over the years of production, the Panhard-Levassor company produced more than 1,200 E.B.R. armored vehicles, with almost all of them equipped with a swinging turret of the FL 10 type and a 75 mm caliber gun. In 1963, a modernization program was adopted, which included replacing the gun with a more powerful 90 mm CN 90 F2. Within this program, about 650 vehicles were modernized. For a long time the Panhard E.B.R. served as the main armored car of the French army and was actively supplied to satellites of France on the African continent, Portugal and Indonesia. The combat vehicle took part in a number of armed conflicts, such as the War of Independence of Algeria, the colonial war of Portugal, the war in the Western Sahara and others. The E.B.R. was in service with the French army until the 1970’s, in a number of African countries the vehicle was in service even beyond the 2000’s.
The first armored vehicles of the E.B.R. series appeared in War Thunder during the winter marathon “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.”. The nimble scouts with a 75mm cannon and an automatic loader took the heart of our tankers for their excellent mobility on solid ground and impressive fire potential, when the annoying French quickly outflanked a group of opponents and could quickly disable several targets from the side and rear. The 75mm APC rounds had problems with the penetration of particularly tough targets from the front, and the Soviet heavy tanks or German self-propelled guns of the late period of the war remained a difficult target for the French car. The Model E.B.R. (1963) retains most of the the positive features of the earlier version and offers the commanders a new, more powerful 90 mm gun with HEATFS shells as the main means of destruction of armored vehicles. The same high speed, reversible transmission, a swinging turret - plus a new cannon with HE and HEATFS shells with more than 300 mm of armor penetration, regardless of the firing distance. In battles where the E.B.R. (1963) is about to participate, the combined protection or ERA armor sets are quite rare, therefore HEATs are definitely a good choice for almost any purpose. Do not forget to improve the skills of the driver and loader, as well as increase the general skill of the selected crew, so that the E.B.R. (1963) should fully show what it is capable of!
Together with the benefits from an early version, the E.B.R. (1963) gained some disadvantages. First, the armor is light: At the thickest part (the frontal projection of the turret), the armor thickness is just over 50mm. Secondly, the wheels: like other wheeled vehicles, the E.B.R. (1963) gets bogged down in snow, sand and mud. Choose your route carefully and keep to the roads and asphalt, where the high-speed potential of the armored car is fully revealed, both when moving forward and backward.
The E.B.R. (1963) is an excellent light tank that can be yours for progressing in the new season of the War Thunder Battle Pass named after this vehicle “Fearless Voltigeur”! Follow our news for a complete list of challenges and descriptions of the main prizes of the new season!

And the Second EBR that gets added. Are also a Event vehicle :/
> Secondly, the wheels: like other wheeled vehicles, the E.B.R. (1963) gets bogged down in snow, sand and mud. This is just wrong. How about you fix it's mobility instead?
They just did
Finger_Mouse, They didn't.
"Poor mobility on unpaved ground" the steel wheels of the EBR were specifically designed to make it just as effective offroad as it is onroad, why have you made this inaccuracy with a second one without fixing the mobility of the first one? also, it should be at least 7.0 if not a 7.3/7.7, if its any lower you will need to instantly change it
If this is 7.7 worthy the RU should be 8.7
The Panhard EBRs wheels were not some magic "mud is now irrelevant" solution. On rough terrain the panhard could still only achieve 25 kmh. The point of its steel wheels was NOT to give it good offroad capability. The point of the wheels was to give it ANY offroad capability at all rather than letting it get stuck in the mud. Stop perpetuating this kinda BS.
Please tell me this is atleast 7.0 , I dont want to see a repeat of the first EBR where it was added at a much lower br then its actual performance and it ends up being in a br sky rocket for the next few patches. the reason i say 7.0 is this is clearly a equivilent to the aml-90 and ru 251 which both sit at 7.0. I dont want the same mistake to be repeated twice please, otherwise a very nice addition to the game :)
Agreed, please do not put this thing lower than 7.0. I don't think the AML-90 is up to par because of its mobility but its close enough.
ACraZYHippIEZA, Aye the Panhard and AML-90 are both worse than this and both sit at 7.0, they should share the same shells, so the gun performance should be identical. the big differences is the fact teh EBR has a crew of 4, so more survivable as well as the fact the eland/aml cap out at a topspeed of 56mph where as the E.B.R is 65mph.
Why is this a battle pass vehicle? EBR is basically the T-34 of French army, why is it getting this treatment?
I disagree with this being a BP prize. I love the BP but I don't think this was a good choice. Now all we have left is the E.B.R. (1951) which is just the 1954 with a slightly worse SA49 cannon compared to the 1954's SA50. I would prefer if the 1951 and 1963 were tech tree vehicles and the ELC Bis be the BP prize because we already know thanks to the leak that Gaijin has an ELC Bis model ready to go (link here: https://i.imgur.com/Dnt20YN.jpeg).
Or we could even have the Marder DF 105 as the BP prize because once again thanks to the leak, we know Gaijin also has a model ready for it too (link here: https://i.imgur.com/ZCvGnAf.jpeg). All both of these could go to France (yes I know the DF 105 was a German project) and would make great BP prizes. Granted, the Marder DF 105 is so hideous that I'm pretty sure it's the spawn of all evil but it would still work.
"Secondly, the wheels: like other wheeled vehicles, the E.B.R. (1963) gets bogged down in snow, sand and mud." Dear devs, what research you did about EBR or Rooikat? These vehicle are MADE for going fast in terrain like sand or mud. EBR has those two steel wheels to help the vehicle go fast in the mud, yet they are still not modeled in game.
It does NOT help it go FAST in the mud. It helps it not get STUCK in the mud. The Panhard had a DOCUMENTED top speed of 25 kmh on rough terrain. Why do you people keep lying about what the wheels could do.
Haha, Great job corporate your devs and players totally don't hate you 😂.
Couldn't France use less mass produced vehicles locked behind time limited events/the marketplace? The MB.152C-1 and EBR (1954) are other examples of this and you can''t even get the (1954) anymore despite it being iconic. I never cared about the exclusivity of already owning both of them, changing the two into named premiums and introducing new ones into the tech tree for newer players with the added benefit of having PCOT-51P as a researchable module in the up-BR'd latter would go a long way.
Question, Who is in charge of adding vehicle? Wasn't the anger you got from the first one enough for all time. Or do you guys just realy hate the community? (It wouldn't get much anger if it got too like 7.0, Just a little tip) (Btw I like the game but the things that happen/get added in this game like in the last years are just crazy and stupid)
