The “Red Skies” update is almost here! While the development team is finishing work on the update, we are describing another useful game mechanic coming to War Thunder tank battles in the upcoming “Red Skies” release.
Now light tanks and squadmates can help extinguish fires. The new mechanic works in a similar way as repair assistance: you need to drive up to a burning vehicle, wait for the indicator of assistance for firefighting, and after holding the help button, the ally will stop burning. In this case, one kit of fire-fighting equipment on the helper tank will be depleted.
The new mechanic works for burning tanks that are not able to extinguish the fire on their own - the FPE kit has run out or has not yet been installed. The firefighting assistance function makes light tanks even more useful on the battlefield, as well as improving the survivability of allies in a squad.

Most fire extinguishing in engine compartments are done with sealed bottles of pressurized cO2 that are piped directly into the engine compartment. The driver pulls a lever that breaks a seal on one of the bottles and dumps a charge into the engine to smother the fire. How is this usable on a friendly tank without stopping to rig up some sort of piping between the two tanks to re-route your FPE and where the gas goes.... permanently? I think a more sensible option is one charge of FPE stock.
Well this is highly dependent on the type of vehicle. Many vehicles in game don't have engine mounted bottles. Many have automatic systems. Many use other types of gasses or powders. But, attacking your notion directly, on my M1A1 Abrams we had two "shots" for the engine. Both hard mounted Halon bottles with automatic and manual triggers. You could use both on one fire if bad, but one shot was supposed to put a fire out. There was also one bottle for the crew compartment. This was hard mounted and could be fired automatically or manually. It was also Halon. Finally we had a minimum of two portable fire extinguishers and often more. The Portable ones were Halon at first but now we use powders that are cheaper, safer, and better for the environment. Regardless you could put out up to five fires. You could help a comrade up to twice. The fire fighting system in this game is a mechanic loosely based on reality. They do two shots for balance reasons. Not historical reasons.
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. We don't need no water...
I sincerely believe that fire repair and extinguishing help should be for all vehicles and not just light tanks and squadrons.
This is one of those additions I love most about major updates. New mechanics that subtly but solidly alter the game for the better. Love it.
It would be nice if we can turn off fire if we dive in river or sea and i hope we can reload FPE cap points
AFAIK You can do it in deep enough water.
Great mechanic but you should be able to resupply your FPE within a cap point
Yay the almost zero chance some light tank will use on of his 2 charges to put out my stock tank's fire instead of giving FPE stock. As long as we only have 2 charges with no way to replenish them who would use one of them on some random player instead of keeping it for themself?
Light tank is our firefighter of savior!
To be honest if FPE replenishment is not allowed I wouldn't use mine for teamates....
That's a really neat improvement! Now I would also suggest that troop-carrying vehicles like the BMP or the Ratel can replace knocked out crew-members on friendly vehicles. I'm sure this has been suggested elsewhere already, but now that you're implementing FPE help, I thought it's a good time to bring this one up again. It would make troop-carriers much more helpful and would create a kind of 'supporter' class of players. :)
This is a really neat idea! Post it in the forums and maybe it will get picked up!
