We continue to expand the number of locations represented in War Thunder with every update, and update 1.87 won’t be an exception to that. Today, we’re happy to present to our players a new location for ground battles, set in beautiful Alaska!
Briefly: A new location for ground battles, inspired by the mountain regions of Alaska.
In update 1.87, we’re happy to present a new location for ground battles, set in the stunning mountainous landscape of Alaska. Specifically, players will battle for control over a small Alaskan town and its imminent surroundings, fighting on wide city streets between skyscrapers in one engagement and dense evergreen forests in the other.
The main focus of battles taking place on this location will be centered around the strategic zones situated within the city itself. Depending on the battle type, players may find themselves contesting ground on either the town’s more open outskirts, where lighter vehicles and tank destroyers can especially benefit from better visibility and longer engagement distances, or the city center itself, where the more frantic close-quarters engagements will take place, more suitable for heavy brawlers.
The new Alaska map will become available in ground battles with the release of the upcoming update 1.87. We hope you enjoy it! Until then, stay tuned for more news on the next update coming to War Thunder. We’ll see you in battle!

Ok, thats a really hecken good looking map.
I dont get why you all are hating on the vietnam map. I do not find it unbalenced at all. Both sides have great shooting positions and cover points. If utilized correctly you can get an insane amount of RP on that map just because of people whom dont know how to use its cover and shooting points. Play smart dont sit out in the open where enemies can get shots on you. Take your shot and return to cover. I myself an absolutely stoked on this new alaska MAP! the city combat is going to be AWSOME!
That's not Rural Alaska, that's Anchorage! I live in Alaska, BTW.
Gaijin, here is a free map idea for you I think will be a hit. The Battle of 73 Easting with no capture points and each battle will have a different spawn.
Looks great! Love the attention to detail and the interesting buildings. I like urban maps, just not at high tier. Gaijin, is there any way you could make this and other close-in maps less common for rank VI (and soon VII) tanks?
To be honest, when I read "Alaska" I thought the Coast Guard. Coast Guard helicopter event confirmed? XD Maybe something in the icy sea that has to be rescued?
I know people like playing their MBTs on large open fields but tanks DON'T ALWAYS FIGHT IN LARGE FIELDS, Close quarters tank engagements aren't uncommon and not everyone already has super fast MBTs, It's pretty frustrating to use slow tanks in big open maps like Fulda and Maginot line that being said they should dumb down the urban mazes because it gets really confusing but a good urban map in my opinion is the American Desert and it's pretty balanced tbh.
Alaska (Russian Federation)?
Ok, now we need a place in Russia! Some where like.. Pripyat or Chernobyl? Does that sounds good Gaijin? I feel like Russia needs new more modern situations, since tier 7 tanks are on the way which are set in the 1980's if a remember correctly, with Chernobyl and Pripyat's events in the 1980's i know it's a stretch when no battles actually took place there, just feel like we need more modern Russian maps.
This map is a bad joke? They all have enough labyrinths and cities and Gaijjin adds another big city. Probably will slowly pack the suitcases and leave as my friends. This game is dying due to bad decisions and the addition of nonsense. Note at the end is funny because the city is not suitable for heavy tanks at all and every lighter tank will overtake them.
