The Challenger Mk.3 is an upgraded modification of the well-known British Challenger MBT, introducing, most notably, additional reactive armour elements to bolster the vehicle’s protection against HEAT rounds. Meet the new and improved Challenger MBT coming to War Thunder as part of the upcoming update 1.85!
Briefly: An upgraded modification of the Challenger MBT with add-on ERA elements that boost the vehicle’s protection.
Several updates ago, we introduced the mighty Challenger Mk 2 MBT to the top rank of the British ground forces tree, giving British tankers their own modern high performance MBT, as a counter to other nation’s vehicles with similar performance. In the upcoming update 1.85, we are pleased to present a new modification of the revered Challenger Mk 2, sporting additional ERA and composite armour packs that increase the vehicle’s protection.
The overall performance of the new Challenger Mk.3 doesn’t change compared to the existing Mk.2 already available in War Thunder. The vehicle still uses the same engine, suspension, gun, ammunition and armour layout. However, what does separate the Mk.3 from the Mk.2 is the addition of add-on ERA and composite armour elements to the front and sides of the vehicle’s hull.
The add-on ERA packs cover the vehicle’s lower front glacis plates, thus greatly increasing protection against HEAT rounds. The vehicle’s simple metal sheet side skirts were also replaced with composite armour screens on the front and rear portions of the hull sides, whereas ERA blocks cover the centre, offering increased protection for the fighting compartment against HEAT rounds. Additionally, all ammunition is now stowed in armoured bins on the Challenger Mk.3, thus decreasing the chances of a penetrating shot igniting the stowed rounds.
Overall, the Challenger Mk.3 offers improved protection against enemy fire and greatly increases survivability compared to the familiar Mk.2 model. We’re sure that seasoned Challenger drivers will make excellent use of the this new addition to their top tier lineup!
Be sure to try out the new Challenger Mk.3 main battle tank, coming to the top rank of the British ground forces tree with the upcoming War Thunder update 1.85. In the meantime, stay tuned to the news to see what else update 1.85 has in store for you. Until then, happy hunting tankers!

I have one question. Add you in this update T-72?
So basically this is a "Challenger 2IP" of sorts. Nice I guess, but unless its frontally invincible when hull down its not going to be very practical. It's slower than all other MBTs at 10.0 and was designed to be immune on the turret and to fight from hull down positions if possible.
i smell M1A1 :))))
Anything new for germany? Anything? plz?
You have plenty of things, UK, France & Japan don't. Now UK is being brought up to partial parity so France & Japan should be next alongside Italy. USA, Russia & Germany don't need a single thing until all the other nations don't each get some more ground vehicles and helicopters. People need to keep balance in their minds and stop being greedy. Your Leopard 2A5, 6, 7, M1A1, A2, T-72, T-90 will come, but give other nations some time to enjoy the game to with a vehicle selection.
SaekoB, I'm pretty sure most people have given up on gaijin ever giving any of those nations anything that will bring them up to par. Unfortunately for Japan the Type 90 is the best that Japan can get, but gaijin has constantly refused leclerc prototypes or anything comparable to france. and they refuse to give britain better ammunition for absolutely no reason at all. All of this while adding in the M1IP that no one asked for, and adding Helo's with zero counter to them to ruin top tier gameplay.
Great.... Now Gaijin will have an extra tank to fix. Not that they ever will. Guessing the Devs are still pay no attention to the 178 pages in the forum regarding all the things wrong with CR1 Mk2. Though at least its not another premium or helicopter which is total cancer in top tier right now. Stop releasing new vehicles and fix the game as it exists right now Gaijin before it becomes an unrecoverable mess.
So where's my Leo 2A4 and Type 90 add on armour?
And when is Germany getting the Leo 2 Production model or the Leo 2A2 for second 10.0. Also when is Russia getting the T-72A/Ural for second 10.0?
BananaMod, Germany has the Leo 2A4, that's a production model m8.
Please more pictures in High resolution
do you guys hate britian that much?, this is gonna be the second slight modified tank in real that is gonna be made into a separate tank and your excuse is because it has armoured bins, but new ATGM firing platform and system with the removal of a autoloader is fine and dandy for the BMP-1 to BMP-1P.
This has better composite armor as well as ERA, it's a different tank; Like the M1 IP to the M1.
Great to see this addition for the challenger! :) was hoping to see some pneumatic suspension too??
I sleep.
