Have you ever wondered how the damage mechanics work for Aviation and Ground Forces function in War Thunder? Perhaps you were interested in finding out how realistic shells and ordinance was translated across to our virtual battlefields? Wonder no more!
War Thunder has a complex and realistic damage model that spans a wide range possibilities, situations and scenarios all with historical accuracy in mind. Each and every vehicle has its own unique damage model, faithfully recreated with every module, crew member and armour plate taken into consideration and functioning in game. In order to truly master the battlefields and join the ranks of the best pilots and tankers, it's important to understand how these mechanics work, how damage is calculated and what factors can affect received and delivered damage.
Distinguishing between Normal, Serious, Critical and Lethal damage and what this means for your vehicle in combat can help you plan and consider your actions and battle strategies before setting off into combat. Whilst your vehicle is your primary weapon in battle, knowledge is the key to victory!

This game has mechanics??!?!?
Lol this wiki page as an absolute fail XD M304 APCR In-game at 0 deg max: 264mm Then check the image ON WARTHUNDERS OWN WIKI XD https://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=File:Image07.jpg *sigh*
Pre-nerf american 90mm APCR was performing very very close to historically, now it just got nerfed to hell XD
You're not reading the graph properly. It is a composite graph, not a straight x/y graph. you need to follow the slope line to the range bracket to find the correct value, in this case appears to be approximately 10 inches which is very close to 264mm(although not precisely)
I'll look it up!
Gaijin, the damge mechanics work, except on IT-1. For when a review on it? Because it's the big reason we hate atgm's!
Gaijin, the damge mechanics work, except on sabots, we do ammo rekt and she's not working at all!
Great, now if only tracks absorbing shells and shells hitting armor and magically doing nothing could be fixed, that would be amazing!
An explosion is not needed to cause and explosion. Friction can also set off ammo racks, Solid shot ap Rounds are almost useless I shouldn't have to aim for each crew member to kill a tank with 77mm cannon
When m3 stuarts tracks eats your 122mm from the side
Fix jumbo armor. Armor was LAYERED not SPACED. It should have over 160mm of effective frontal hull armor, now it gets like 120
if the plates touch, it is effectively a single plate of the full thickness physics wise. For spaced armor like say, the panther or patton gun mantlet, the mechanic needs to be fixed to degrades the shell penetration values, speed, and riccochet angles for the second armor plate because of the initial impact. From what I am reading in the damage model, it does not. Also, spaced armor does not work against HEAT properly; currently the plasma jet seems to have an infinite length and shouldn't
Please be nice to the people at Gaijin :( I've played for 4 years and I think they're doing a great job.
