Hey everyone! The Heavy Cavalry update has just released, yet we’re already working hard on content for the next major update. Today, we’re taking a peek behind the scenes at the first work-in-progress images of the Australian CA-27 jet fighter.
This is an Australian design based on the American F-86 Sabre jet fighter with a new engine and armament. It features the Rolls-Royce Avon engine and the machine guns have been replaced with 30 mm ADEN autocannons, plus there is new ordnance, new to the F-86 series.
Despite its visual resemblance to the Sabre, the CA-27 is essentially a new aircraft. Using the Avon engine required redesigning the air intake and the entire rear fuselage; modifications were also made to the wings to accommodate fuel tanks alongside a full complement of external weaponry. The CA-27 model for War Thunder is being built from scratch, currently our team of artists are looking at documentation and photographs, adding increasingly detailed elements to the model.
The CA-27 will take its place in the British research tree, filling a gap in the early jet fighter line. This aircraft is a maneuverable dog fighter that the tree lacked at these ranks, offering handling familiar to Hunter pilots, but now in the agile airframe of the Sabre. We’ll showcase the results of this work closer to the update’s release!
Please note that vehicle specifications and model visuals may be subject to revision and change before being added to the game.

When can we expect the A.V. Roe CF-100 Canuck?
A new plane that isn't top tier? In the tech tree? With good communication about it? That's a step in the right direction for sure, hopefully more of that to come.
Does this mean Australia is a British subtree?
This is a cool new news format. Keep it up. I love looking behind the scenes.
Which version is this exactly? Is it one with leading edge slats or one without, because that will determin if it's gonna be the true best Sabre or the Cl-13B will keep it's crown
i like the behind the scenes look, and i will always love an early cold war design !
Hopefully we can get a model upgrade for the A and F sabres already available in most trees
I just want to chip in that I love this new news format! More like this please. I genuinely love behind the scenes stuff from game developers. SCS Software (developers of Euro/American Truck Simulator) has some great behind the scenes/meet the team news articles. I would love to see an BTS on the development/remastering of maps for example.
Finally! A wonderful addition.
