Today we’re talking about the graphical rework of the Ash River, 38th Parallel, and Ardennes (Winter) locations and arresting gear at ground airfields!
Ground Battle Locations
The Heavy Cavalry major update brings great news for tankers and pilots! First, we’d like to show you the first screenshots of the locations for Ground Battles. The game environment, objects, buildings, and roads have been completely redesigned for the 38th Parallel and Ash River locations, and a new version of the winter Ardennes map will be added. On all maps, we’ve strived to preserve the navigation and gameplay players are familiar with, while also implementing a major visual update aimed at creating a more realistic, atmospheric, and cinematic combat environment. We hope you enjoy!
Ash River
38th Parallel
Please note that the 38th Parallel location is temporarily unavailable in random battles until several issues that are causing performance drops are fixed.
Ardennes (Winter)
Arresting Gear
Another piece of good news is the addition of arresting gear at ground airfields! An arresting gear is a system of cables arranged in a series, connected to the braking system, that simplifies aircraft braking on aircraft carrier decks and short runways. An aircraft equipped with an arresting hook attaches to one or more sequentially arranged cables, significantly reducing the landing run. Now, at land-based airfields for aircraft with the arresting hook, it will be deployed automatically when the landing gear is lowered — press “G” by default to lower the landing gear!

Comments will be premoderatedWhile it's fine to revise existing maps, they should bring back the maps that are currently out of the rotation as soon as possible.
Flattening of the maps will be interesting for The first two maps. Definitely a huge difference on Ash River.
Is this for all airfields? I feel like it would make more sense just to put them at the front-line airfields, allowing a faster re-engagement time.
can you bind a different key to the arrestor hook or is it always linked to landing gear
Gaijin please make it so when you ban a map you can actually ban the map! If I don't want to play on say volokolamsk then I don't want to play on volokolamsk, be it summer winter or fall. This would make premium time far more valuable and desirable as everyone has one map they absolutely loathe and it would be well worth buying premium to make it permanently disappear.
Well the arresting gear will be great for navel planes who have horrid breaks... Just hope the top right spawn on the one side is fixed on Ash River because it's so much fun spawning and not being able to move hardly because you have a low powered vehicle or stock and you are on a 45 degree hill.
i can finally land properly with f14
Sadly does the average War Thunder player never live long enough to ever need to land.
Wish there was a separate button for it instead of it being lowered on its own. Wouldn't want to see it come down all the time when landing with a F-4EJ/EJ Kai Phantom II
Will the cables be on WW2 runways as well?
