The Merkava Mk.1 is the first MBT developed and built by Israel for use by its own armed forces. You will be able to get this long awaited famous MBT as one of the main prizes for the American tech tree in the upcoming ”Battlefield Engineer” event!
Briefly: A well protected and mobile Israeli MBT, armed with the powerful 105mm M68 cannon
During the mid 1960s, Israel began researching the possibility of developing and manufacturing a domestically designed tank. The need for such a vehicle became even more emphasized after failed negotiations with Great Britain around the same time led to Israel not being permitted to licence produce the Chieftain MBT. Thus, during the late 1960s official development on a domestic Israeli tank began.
The Israeli tank was primarily designed around combat experiences gained during the Yom Kippur War, resulting in heavy emphasis being put on crew survivability. By 1974, first prototypes of the new “Merkava” tank were constructed and put through initial testing. After nearly a decade of development, the Merkava Mk.1 was adopted for service by the IDF in December 1979 and modernized versions continue to serve with Israeli forces today.
Unlike most other contemporary MBTs, the Merkava Mk.1 features a rather unique design and puts great emphasis on increased crew survivability and firepower, while somewhat lacking in mobility.
Armed with a familiar 105mm rifled cannon, firing the usual selection of NATO ammunition, the Merkava Mk.1 is able to comfortably punch through the armor of most enemies it may face. Designed with crew survivability in mind, the Merkava Mk.1 features a specific armor layout, which, combined with spaces between the armor elements, a spacious interior and specially located ammunition racks, gives the Merkava Mk.1 very good survivability. However, the Merkava Mk.1 weighs an impressive 60 tons and is powered by a 963 hp engine, resulting in rather average mobility with a top speed of 46 km/h forwards and 8 km/h in reverse.
The event Merkava Mk.1 of VI rank represents not only an interesting vehicle, but also a highly effective one as well, the Merkava Mk.1 is a valuable addition to any tanker’s collection, so be sure to get your hands on it and not to miss the ”Battlefield Engineer” event!

why US tree? pls reconsider it and add it in brittish tree
For all of you saying this tank belongs in the British tree the Mk1 uses an American engine and transmission as well as the M68 rather than the L7. It just has more in common with American vehicles than British.
It doesn't. The Merkava was built around the Chieftain design philosophy. The design is closely related to the Chieftain, with its 14HP/ton ratio, strong emphasis on protection and they even wanted to place a 120mm on it, but couldn't since there was no comparable cannon to the Chieftain's in NATO countries at that time, so they ended up with a US licence-built L7. And the suspension and tracks are British (taken from Centurion). So it definitely fits in both the US and UK tree.
It's a cool tank that I will probably never get since I have a life. I also think that it would make more sense to be in the british tree.
Yes, the americans CLEARLY need MORE top tier MBTs. #WhyBotherWithBritain
Gaijin, I beg you. Merkava is my most favorite tank design ever. I got top tier british tanks and littuarly no non premium top tier american tank. The Merkava has more to do with the brittish then America, so here is my question. Could you pls rethink this tank and put it in the brittish tech tree instead of the american one. I would be very dissepointed if it stays the way it is now
I am not saying it has nothing to do with America but I think brittain in game right now needs more top tier tanks different from the challenger series. not only that but America already has an awfull lot of top tier stuff. Non premium aswell as premium.
So its got: 1) an american gun with a British barrel. 2) an american diesel engine 3) a British track system 4) Belgian and american machine guns 5) an american Matador FCS 6) an american FPE system whilst i want another tank in the British line, its a rather american tank
It is actually more of a British tank, its design, such as crew protection, came from experience with British tanks than American tanks, in fact most of its design came from British tanks.
GrandMoffTano, the tank was built on experience from american, french, and british tanks. The only way you can attribute its design solely to Britain is by pointing out that one reason the merkava was designed was because britain refused to sell them the chieftain. its an israeli tank built using american aid and some british spare wheels.
Sorry, when I think modern Israeli equipment being I influenced by any one nation, It has to be the US. Well done Gaijoob. There are other tanks out there that could be presented to the British tree. In fact I bet that's where the swedes will go.
Sp the Brits should get the Swedish Leopards?
I_Vanguard_I, I'd be down for that! I'm just saying the Israeli's and USA are very closely tied. Much more so than the Brits.
Ehmmm where are the chains that hanging on the turret's basket ??
Those were only introduced with the MK II after the invasion of Lebanon.

Oh well! We will be full up with this market place crap again! The 99% Merkava teams coming after the 99% IS7 teams. There is no event or reward vehicle any longer but market place! I never forget when I played my stock Ho Ri Production at the first time and 5 IS7 came front of me. Or I would say 1500 Euro of pay to win! But who the Hell cares about game balance until the money comes so nice? On the end of the day this is only a money making machine! And the community just swallow so nice!
I for one greatly agree with its addition to the US tree. It looks great and I can't wait to get this thing!
