Argentina in The Second World War

History would suggest that Argentina remained neutral for the duration of the war, but beyond the official stance, around 600 Argentinians, mostly children of British background, decided to leave their neutrality behind and fight against the axis power, either enlisting for the RAF or the Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ). They flew in company with British, Polish, Canadians and many others who also bore the British flag, to defend the homeland of their forefathers.

Storm over Belgrade

The attack on Yugoslavia and aerial bombing of Belgrade was directly influenced by a military coup d'état that was carried out on March 27th by a group of Royal Yugoslav Air Force and Yugoslav Royal Guard officers led by Brigadier General Borivoje Mirkovic which was opposed to a Tripartite Pact signing which in turn was done by the Yugoslav government once all of it’s neighbours had signed it.

Birthday of Alexander Yakovlev
Aleksandr Sergeyevich Yakovlev,  was born on the 1st of April 1906 in Moscow, he died on  August the 22nd 1989 in the same City. He was a leading aircraft designer best known for his series of Yak fighter aircraft used by the Soviet Union in World War II.

Royal Air Force Anniversary

The Royal Air Force was formed on April 1st 1918, immediately becoming the largest air force in the world and having a strong impact on the events in the last year of World War I. However it was during World War II and the Battle of Britain in 1940, when thousands of British pilots faced the previously unbeaten Luftwaffe armada and the RAF role became truly crucial.

Sergey Ilyushin's anniversary

Sergey Ilyushin was a chief designer of the Ilyushin OKB in 1935. The most prominent project his bureau made in the war years were the Ilyushin Il-2 ground attacker, Ilyushin Il-4 bomber which were extensively produced and used throughout the second World War.
