In this digest we would like to tell you about our continuing work on improvements and fixes in the game. You can find information about all updates that have been released in War Thunder on the website special section.
Changing artillery strike in ground battles
Let us tell you about the reason for the upcoming changes first. Artillery in War Thunder was designed as a fairly effective method of pressure on the enemy that allows you to squeeze them out of their well selected position or make a particular section of the battlefield dangerous for a while. The mechanics work well enough but the occasional but memorable deaths from sighting shells can really spoil the impression of the game, especially on weakly armoured vehicles for which artillery fire carries a much greater danger.
In its updated form the artillery strike is devoid of this drawback and just becomes more interesting. Now the first shells in the bombardment will be loaded with coloured aerosol upon which spotters can guide the main salvo and pilots can see the location of likely targets. The explosion of aerosol shells doesn’t cause significant damage and gives any enemies in the epicentre of fire a chance to react.
At the same time the number of the shells that have been replaced by targeting shells have been added to the main salvo which means that the final danger in the artillery strike zone hasn’t been reduced.
Straightened catapult on aircraft carriers
Launching an aircraft from aircraft carriers is a technically complex process that involves a special device - an acceleration catapult. In War Thunder this mechanism also gives the initial impulse to your aircraft. It’s just that until now it could give an impulse in the wrong direction…
We have fixed a bug that caused the launch direction on some aircraft carriers to be incorrect and might not only damage the aircraft on the superstructure but also throw you into the water. Taking off is now less risky!
Fixing phantom shadows
This bug showed up most often in the most fierce battles with an abundance of destroyed and still living participants. Fragment shadows appeared on the ground not related to the vehicles themselves.
We found the reason for this problem and worked to eliminate it.
Increased mobility in some vehicles
In general not a single rubric can do without various clarifications in the technical and weaponry vehicle characteristics if you open the full list of changes. But usually it is a minor change for a single vehicle.
This time we want to please the owners of the following vehicles: Ariete, Ariete PSO, Ariete (P) - will become noticeably more dynamic due to an increase in the number of gears in the gearbox. And Chieftain Mk.3, Chieftain Mk.5, Chieftain Mk.10 will become better at turning on the spot. Many such useful little things are waiting for you in each digest.
More improvements
For this digest we have prepared a large set of useful fixes and game improvements. Be sure to read the full list which we have prepared in the separate changelog - there are many interesting things.
Once again, many thanks for all your bug reports that you submitted by using our special service.

new arty mechanics is just really sad
it is killing realism.. WT is becoming WoT devs, please, at least put this mechanic only AB... dont touch RB please...
modern_primat, AB doesn't want it either. Give it to sim. They're the ones who are supposed to have the realism
How you like new arty?
New arty sucks, sorry to say it just sucks a lot. -1 step backward for War Thunder. No need to add coloured aerosol round
I think it's pretty cool.
I could see coloured arty smoke being useful in SB for coordination with planes; not sure how AB and RB will feel about it.
It would be good in RB as a seperate shell to signal planes of enemy positions.
Neunter09, You mean like that little red arrow that appears when you damage something with your arty? All the smoke does is blind those same pilots to the target that would have been otherwise marked by explosions and already existing mechanics.
The Airfield AA in low tiers can really spoil the impression of the game to many players too, since players abuse it to their advantage. Time to nerf it or remove it ;)
Can't agree more. Too many times they destroy dogfights or otherwise fun moments and noobs are lured into a certain death. @Stona_WT, what is the reason behind this buff anyway?
But it is not the airfield AA that is the biggest problem, it is AA in general, if you get within 5 km of AA in a slow moving vehicle you will get killed by it unless you employ extensive evasive maneuvers. This is not know by new players, and I often see a third of my team die to AA, it needs to be nerfed.
"The explosion of aerosol shells doesn’t cause significant damage and gives any enemies in the epicenter of fire a chance to react." Ah yes, just what you want from already marginally useful arty. Less damage and more warning. Because the big red flashing message and the loud sound of death coming weren't enough.
I know right? I have never once died to arty that I didn't know was coming. Sure I've gotten unlucky and died in heavily armored vehicles due to a direct hit, but that was on me for playing the odds and assuming i'd be safe. Even more blinding smoke on the battlefield is the last thing i want obscuring the enemy and letting them repair what little damage the artillery did without even having to use their own smokes. Not to mention blinding any planes trying to use the markers.
"At the same time the number of the shells that have been replaced by targeting shells have been added to the main salvo which means that the final danger in the artillery strike zone hasn’t been reduced".
Remove arty smokes, no surprise, cant see true smokes,no realistic.
Can War Thunder do an update without it getting hated on?!?!??!?!?
Well they should make an actual worthwhile update instead of making colored smoke and continuing to make bombers and attackers useless
There was no need to nerf arty. You literarly get a big red message saying u should bounce if arty got called on you.
Fixed mobility of some vehicles huh? When will the bulldog get back its mobility? It's behaving like darn medium tank atm.
Arty change is so much worse, now you can blind your enemy as well before you killl them. This is too powerful.
Nice, now fix Ariete armor ;)
