Every year on February 21st, South Africa holds a parade to commemorate Armed Forces Day. This date was chosen to commemorate the South Africans who served in the First World War. The modern South African National Defense Force operates Olifant and Rooikat tanks, Ratel infantry fighting vehicles, Mamba armored personnel carriers, and Rooivalk helicopters. The country follows the tradition of naming its equipment after animals.
