Eastern exotics in War Thunder! Meet the MBT-2000 main battle tank designed in collaboration with China and Pakistan.
MBT-2000, MBT, China, rank VII
Features:
- Good protection
- Thermal vision
- Autoloader
The MBT-2000 main battle tank was developed by the Pakistani company Heavy Industries Taxila in collaboration with the Chinese Norinco based on the Chinese Type 90-IIM tank. The tank was thoroughly upgraded during development, including the gun, fire control system, cooling and air filtration systems. The hot climate of Pakistan forced the designers to look for a new engine. After a series of tests, a Ukrainian 6TD-2 diesel engine with 1200 HP was chosen for the project. After almost a decade since the start of the project, the first experimental batch entered service with the Pakistani army in 2001 under its own name Al-Khalid. In addition to Pakistan, a batch of MBT-2000 tanks was ordered in China by the Royal Army of Morocco.
The MBT-2000 main battle tank will strengthen the already formidable Chinese lineup, and in the research tree, will be placed within the light tank line. Let's take a look at the details of this interesting Chinese-Pakistani tank that will be waiting for you with the release of the upcoming major update!
The MBT-2000 is based on the experimental Type 90-IIM tank, which in turn is an upgraded Soviet T-72 of the early production series. Hence the familiar layout, three members crew, an automatic loader and a 125 mm smoothbore gun. The MBT-2000 widely used domestic developments of China and Pakistan, as well as technologies from other countries. The tank received complex armor using both traditional homogeneous armor and more advanced protection means, such as NERA composite and FY-2 ERA protection, which, compared to the Soviet ancestor, significantly increased the tank's protection from both kinetic and shaped charge projectiles.
The 125-mm ZPT-98 gun, controlled by a modern FCS with a laser rangefinder and a gunner's thermal imager, has automatic feed from a large automated ammunition rack and has a range of available ammunition. Two types of kinetic APFSDS shells, two types of high-explosive fragmentation rounds (conventional and variable time fuze), as well as HEAT rounds.
The MBT-2000 received a new 1,200 HP engine, granting the tank with perfect mobility. The maximum speed of the tank reaches almost 70 km/h, quite good for an MBT!
The MBT-2000 and other great new vehicles will be waiting for you in the next big War Thunder update, don't miss our devblogs to be the first to see the news!

Comments will be premoderatedSame transmission as the Leclerc... Maybe this means you'll finally fix the Leclerc mobility ... Haha, it's French, who am I kidding
ZTS63's missing a HMG that is being asked for 3 years, still not being fixed, so chill bro
As a Pakistani, I like my country being represented. I wish for a Pak sub-tree in China pretty pls! I didn't know this was the Al-Khalid.
Hope we can have FC-17 and J-10C in the future
"which in turn is an upgraded Soviet T-72",this tank and type 90-IIM only have their main gun and autoloader derived from T-72,except the completely different turret, the chassis armor is also different from the typical soviet degin, the chassis armor design is similar to the japanese type 90.So can we say T-80BVM is just a upgraded early production of T-64 tank based on the same logic?
I mean if you put those two next to each other, yes you will see the differences, but the T-80 is a variant to the T-64, you can't say the exact same if you put the T-72 but it's also similar because over the models only small bits were modified. In all you could say that the T-80 or T-72 is just a model of the T-34 or T-50, depending how far you want to go back. You can see the generational changes being done by each of them but all in all it's the same tank. ☺♥
That's... actually pretty nice, but still, can Japan hope for new high tier SPAA this update?
Japan really needs more then that especially for ground , just give them both koreas as subtrees already and maybe thailand
“which in turn is an upgraded Soviet T-72” Seriously? one sprocket from T-72, then it is a T-72. Is this the new one drop rule of tanks?
Didn't they literally say in their video on Chinese MBTs that they had barely any influence from the T-72? That their engineers just ended up designing a tank along the same or similar lines?
Now just add ZTZ-15 light tank
I think it is ZTQ15 XD
ZTQ-15
will you fix the survivability of the russian mbt, it's annoying and destroy any fun in top tier when you made the first shot, a perfect shot that always worked, in the side, and it just do fuel tank, and don't dare telling me i'm crying against russian bias, it's stupidly obvious that's bugged, all the ammoracks doesn't do anything, the era stop top tier apfsds close range, the fuel tank is a black hole against any shell, just make them not invincible. Ka's could be in the package too.
When will you add VT4 in to techtree?
M1A2T when
No hell no. You don't get any M1A2's. First give the Nato MBT's the rest of their hull protection and up to date MBT's on par with what Russia is fielding. Then maybe you can have an M1 production number 1 to play with like we had to forever, facing 2018 MBT's. This nonsense of china using Taiwan's, American export vehicles that are better versions than US gets needs to end. Never should have been allowed in the first place.
Another Chinese MBT... Yay...
