Today we would like to tell you about the new effects of the influence of wind in the game environment of War Thunder - smoke, fire, sparks and dust.
The wind has already blown in locations of War Thunder, but before the release of the Winged Lions update, it could only be seen on the grass and on the waves. Now everything will be different! All particle effects, such as fires and smoke, dust from ground vehicles and aircraft engines, gun shots, explosions and sparks - all these effects will now be affected by the wind.
The wind in the game depends on the weather settings. The influence of wind effects is most noticeable during storms, but such weather is rare in War Thunder, and we are looking for a middle ground between a comfortable weather for playing and the beauty of the effects.
We are currently tweaking the weather settings to make the new wind effects more picturesque in the upcoming update. We will continue to make effects better in the following updates too, we have tons of ideas!

Having been a USAF pilot for 20 years, I know the effect of wind on aircraft. Will this effect navigation and landing? I admit, it has been nice never having to deal with a crosswind landing in the game, especially after losing half a wing, but will it now be a realistic problem or will it remain a mild visual effect. If you are going to have real wind effects for takeoff and landing, a very visible wind sock is a must-have item. Real winds vary in direction and intensity at different altitudes.
Will there be notable wind shears? What about mountain wave turbulence which is created around tall objects like land forms and tall buildings which will effect several maps? Don't get me wrong, I like the added realism. I just wonder how far it goes. I'm going to guess you'll be starting out with nothing much more than gentle breezes.
nice!
Finally! Particles will no longer just sit in one spot for 15 seconds!
Obviously wondering how it may affect smoke protection...
Are yall gonna ever add the vapor effect on the wings when a jet pulls a high g turn?
I hope the storms are frequent, like Thor pounding in his anvil.
For yearsm I have already experiences the effect of wind in War Thunder. When you land on a carrier sailing at speed, effectively you're landing into the wind making it much easier to land.
Will the wind be purely cosmetic, or will shooting a shell from 3000m be affecting by crosswind?
New vehicles are always welcome, but sound and graphical improvements really make of this a higher quality game!
I hope helicopters will be able to blow through battlefield smoke with visible vortexes :D
