In the next major update coming to War Thunder, the Japanese ground forces tree will see several highly anticipated new additions and changes being implemented. In today’s devblog, we will showcase some of the most notable changes coming with the upcoming major update - let’s have a look!
New Variants of the Type 74
Coming as part of the next major update “Direct hit”, seasoned tankers may rejoice as new variants of the popular Type 74 make its way to the top ranks of the Japanese ground forces tree. Specifically, the current Type 74 in the game will be updated to the Type 74 E, while the earlier modification - the Type 74 C - will be introduced to reinforce the Japanese high tier lineup. As a result, the combat endurance of Japanese tank commanders should increase as they get the chance to bring more vehicles into battle!
Additionally, we also plan to update the ammunition selection of the Type 74 series, including that of the STB-1 prototype. While the Type 74 E will retain most of its current ammunition selection, it will lose access to HESH rounds. The STB-1 on the other hand will retain its subcaliber and HESH rounds, but will lose the option of carrying HEAT rounds. Lastly, the new Type 74 C will form a middle ground between the two existing modifications: it will carry the same ammunition as the STB-1 but will also have access to a more powerful HEATFS round which tankers will be able to unlock as they gain experience using the vehicle.
Reinforced SPAAG Line: Welcome the M16 & M19
Apart from new additions to the top ranks, we also plan to introduce two new vehicles to the low and mid ranks of the Japanese ground forces tree, specifically its SPAAG branch. Already familiar to American tankers in particular, their Japanese colleagues will now also receive access to the well-known and no less deadly M16 and M19 SPAAGs. These will bolster the strength of the Japanese SPAAG line at ranks II and III, respectively.
With these two new additions we strive to make the progression through the ranks of the Japanese SPAAG branch smoother while at the same time offering tankers more adequate levels of anti-air protection at each rank. Beware pilots, the Japanese mobile air defences just got stronger!
Additional Camouflage for high-rank Vehicles
Last but not least, fans of Japanese ground forces will have one more new addition to look forward to in the next major War Thunder update. Namely, we plan to introduce an updated default single-tone camouflage, as well as two-tone patterns to all JSDF vehicles, thus giving tankers the option to outfit their favorite Japanese high-rank vehicles with a fresh coat of paint! Quite neat, isn’t it?
These and many more new additions and improvements await you in the upcoming major update arriving soon to War Thunder. In the meantime, make sure to stay tuned to the news to find out what other exciting new content the next major update has in store for you. Until then, happy hunting tankers!

Nevertheless i'm extremely happy about these changes. IT has been a very long time since Japan recieved this much of contents. While there are many bugs i found among Type 74s but i hope that every report i sent will fix these issues BEFORE the patch is released.
That´s all fine and cool but Japan still lacks some vehicles in the higher BRs like the Type 10 to get a competitive line up for 10.7-11.0. Types just dont cut it in the momentary meta against America, Russia and Germany. Even the USA gets a new Abrams and thats like the 5th i think. Why does japan not get more love?
Will we get a new top jet premium for japan soon?
T-2 CCV pls, because the normal T-2 is totally not maneuverable enough already
When will be the devblog for the new naval FCS?
hopefully when they get it working!
Gaijin WT team, there's a graphic bug on when adjusting Active Suspension on most of the Type 74 (including the Type 74G-Kai), please fix those first or I hope you would find that while adding the new 74 variants
Whens direct hit coming out?
"will also have access to a more powerful HEATFS round" So it's a higher BR because it gets a HEAT FS shell that's not worth using over APDS because everything has HEAT protection at those BR's, great!
Sorry but it is not an Type 74 (C) if it can not fire APFSDS. Also HEAT-FS was not introduced from the base Type 74 all the way to Type 74 (D). It was introduced for the first time on Type 74 (E) in the form of Type 91 HEAT-FS not US M456. I don't understand, you have got the Type 74 (C) 100% acurrate with the vehicle having only APDS, APFSDS and HESH and then you chose to mess it all up by replaced APFSDS with HEAT-FS instead of simply up BR the Type 74 (C) to 8.3, it can not be that difficult
Imo, if there is no plan in bringing back the APFSDS to Type 74 (C) then i think it should get its name changed to just Type 74 representing the initial production of Type 74 which had no APFSDS. And replacing the M392A2 APDS with more powerful M728 APDS to make up for its higher BR than STB-1. Regarding the HEAT-FS it may also need to be removed because no Type 74 variant before 1991 had such shell. But if the Devs want to keep it then it should be the Japanese licensed Type 91 HEAT-FS.
So a bunch of complete copy pasta that could and should have come years ago (you know, when the type 74 WAS top rank) a paint job and an explanation on how you plan to mess with their ammunition... this merited a devblog?
So ONE MORE TIME...time to grind M16 and M19....BECAUSE WHY NOT? Good they didn't added another Sherman xd
don't worry, they already have one
Don't give them idea for next update.
