In the upcoming major update "Red Skies", we are adding into the game a camera that tracks the flight and fall of naval shells. A similar camera can be found in air battles, where holding down the “space bar” allows you to track dropped air bombs, rockets or torpedoes. In naval battles, War Thunder captains will be able to precisely aim the salvoes of their main calibre guns. After a volley, the guns are reloaded, and you can personally follow the flight of the ranging or main salvo and more accurately adjust your aim for the next one. Besides, watching the shells flying over the battle scape is just very beautiful!
At the time of the “Red Skies” update release, the new camera will be implemented for the non-automatic main battery guns of the War Thunder bluewater fleet.

I like the idea but the current implementation is poor. It should be a different keybind than the firing button, as right now it interferes with high-fire rate guns like USN 127mm's, UK 114mm's, and German 127mm's. Making it similar to how bombs in air work, with a different keybind, would be much better. Or, if it's too close to release to change that, just adding something under the Options or Controls menu to toggle it off would be nice.
Agreed, needs a new keybind or an option. Holding "ranging shot" to sequential fire also doesn't work because of the current implementation of the mechanic.
MiniMe943, actually, they fixed that on the second dev server. The ranging shot for sequential fire works now, you just need to tap tje button for each shot instead of hold it down. It does work though.
for arcade sure but not realistic, seems really gimicky
This should be in arcade only, especially when you're adding scout plane in the future. What's the point of scout planes if you can range without them?
put only into battles arcade,
I can only join the previous commenters. Please consider implementing a toggleable option ON/OFF for the camera or just let us set it to another keybind option other than being permanently tied to the current Ranging shot option.
It'd be nice if this is an arcade-only feature. After all this isn't the "other" ship game.
Tested on a DEV server. I had to press the key many times when using ranging shot. The tracking viewpoint should be set to a different key from the shooting key .
Now I know how they filmed Major "King" Kong riding bomb from Dr.Strangelove!
Yeeee haaaa!!!! (although, from distant memories of such a great movie, it was such a low-level bombing run with a nuke....)
Measured, I know, but still :)
We need a separate keybind for this, at the moment it's just ruining rapid firing guns. Plus, it can get annoying when you are trying to use things like the fast firing guns off the Pr.159 or Pr.30 which deal more damage in a salvo than per individual shot.
Everyone here is just defending their "ranging shot" exploits, which have very little to do with how ships actually used single shots to range. It should be left the way it is now: one less exploit is good. As Orangetail says, worst-case is you have to click a little more, honestly.
All these features they keep adding to naval is really making me want to play it now
Do it! Come join the dark side...
don't stay away from the pain gamemode
