The German Phantom II in a special export version and with a unique camouflage for completing tasks in the upcoming crafting event in War Thunder!
F-4F Phantom II, Germany, rank VI
Pros
- Superb flight characteristics
- A variety of mounted weapons
Cons
- No flares or chaff
- Lacks air-to-surface missiles
In the early 1970’s, Germany decided to purchase a "simplified" version of the American F-4E Phantom II jet fighter: it was assumed that in order to reduce the price of the expensive aircraft, some of the equipment would be produced in Germany itself. So, the export "Phantom" had simplified radar equipment, lost one of its fuel tanks and equipment for refueling in the air. Initial export models also lacked some guided weapons, including AGM-65 Mavericks. The power plant of the fighter had also become a subject of cost reduction by Germany deploying licensed production of the engines.
The new aircraft, designated F-4F, successfully completed tests in 1973, and in the fall of the same year the first fighters from 175 units ordered went to Europe. German "Phantoms" proved to be in the best service and subsequently went through several cycles of modernization, as a result of which the fighters were supplemented with some "missing" equipment that met the needs of the Luftwaffe. The F-4F Phantom II was in service for nearly 40 years - the last deeply modernized "veterans" of the Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG 71) Richthofen regiment went into retirement in the summer of 2013.
The German version of the iconic American F-4F Phantom II jet fighter will be one of the most desired rewards in the April crafting event in War Thunder. The F-4F is an early version of the fighter; in one of the upcoming major updates, the Luftwaffe will also receive a representative of the “Phantom II” series in the regular tech tree. The early F-4F Phantom II can be yours for free in the near future!
Despite the fact that the export version of the avionics of the F-4F does not have modes designed to work with the air-to-surface missiles, it is still a great high-rank fighter and one of the best aircraft in the game. So, the German "Phantom II'' in a nutshell has a maximum speed of Mach 2 (at high altitudes), an excellent selection of available armament, and a unique evil grin camouflage on its nose. A pilot is free to choose from a variety of weapons: bombs up to 2,000 pounds, Mighty Mouse and Zuni rockets, 20mm Vulcan gunpods and three modifications of the deadly Sidewinder air-to-air missiles: AIM-9B FGW-2, AIM-9E and AIM-9J.
The top-tier German "Phantom" will be yours for completing the big April crafting event. More details are coming, stay tuned!

After ruinning German top tier ground with a free Leopard 2, Gaijin just decides to ruin German top tier air with a free Phantom... GENIUS !
FREE??? bruh, not for people who have to work.
JamesJLahey, Shepard means that now lvl 20s have an easy way of getting to top tier. German top tier Air RB win rates will plummet because newer players wont know what they are doing at top tier.
is this the time to say it? GeRmAnY sUfFeRs
Germany gets something --> anti German kids "wääwää gErMaNy SuFfErS".
JamesJLahey, not a german vehicle: gets in the news, wehraboos: WhAt AbOuT uS? GeRmAnY sUfFeRs
So when will the FGR/FG1 get AIM-9Ms or Xs? Since now all a plane has to do is physically be capable of using a missile to get it. Naziboos being handheld as usual.
they arent nazi this is west germany, i guess it would be "Bundeswehraboo"
you will get them when every nation gets it, aim9j arent the best missile compare to sramm and r-60 so chill up teaboos
In a crafting even??? WOW. No one cares. the events suck
Aim 9j seriously? are you guys ,xcsasd? I thnk we need three secondary sources and 1 primary sources to confirm a thing, you can't give them 9j just because"their flight manual says it can carry it " I have never seen any kind of sources or videos or even in real life see a f4f early carrys a 9j even the later versions only receives 9l
It is given a 9j on the grounds that it is listed in the manual. If the Luftwaffe is allowed to do this despite the fact that they don't actually operate it, then anything is possible anymore.
Gyrosensor, AIM-9J for F-104S when?
WTF jerry get the GOD DAMM AIM-9J? thay did not use the AIM-9J if you going to give a AIM-9J to F-4F give FGR a AIM-9G or AIM-9J
Gaijin must coddle Germany. They must.
May i see your secret documents, that give us a proof of German F-4Fs use of AIM-9E and AIM-9J? As far as i know Germans only used AIM-9B, AIM-9F(already at game as AIM-9B FGW.2) and then they jumped directly to AIM-9L. Thx.
You can buy the F4 Operator Manual in Internet. The German Phantom is capable to carry Aim9L, but they never used it. LOL
WunderWaffel_, They had the 9B and 9L in inventory, while the plane could carry 9Js. Giving it 9B would make it suffer but giving it 9L would make it OP, so Gaijin went with the safer route and gave it the 9J.
F-4F should NOT receive missiles it never carried - AIM-9E or AIM-9J. It's as simple as that. Yes it might be capable, but still it did not ever carry them. If we do it like this, why dont give AIM-9J to german F-104G or SRAAM to Harrier GR.3? If you want to add competitive top tier for Germany, why not MiG 21bis? As a sidenote, British Phantoms did in fact carry AIM-9G, and MiG 21MF did use RWR in german service.
Also, didn't you say "MiG 21 PFM never carried R-60 in Russian service, so it can't receive them, although being technically capable of this"? #germanbias
michaello_hero, you need to learn the difference between export planes and the time before 1991 the mig21pfm is a soviet plane and the parts for it were build all over the soviet union which doesnt make it a russian plane, for simpletons go ingame and check the flag at the statcard it would be nice if you could do some research before you cry in the comments.
Oh WOW how nice F4F can carry aim9b FGW-2 aim9e and aimj, don't forgett British Phantoms could carry aim9d,aimg,aim9h now that sounds quite fair doesn't it:)
It's not Gaijin if they aren't using double standards
Conte_Baracca, it will happen if other nations gets it? aim-9j arent end of the world, a-7d could carry it and its easily evaded unless youre braindead which you probably are
AIM-9J oj early phantom? Never happened.
on*
KOMINIARZ707, F-4F is just an F-4E wothout Sparrows. Besides, even F-4Cs carried AIM-9Js lol
