MiG-21 PFM, Rank VI, USSR, Event
This vehicle will be the exclusive award in the “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.” event.
During the modernization of the second generation of MiG-21 fighters, the Soviet military authorities demanded the design team to modify the aircraft for takeoff and landing from unpaved airfields. As a solution, the engineers proposed equipping the aircraft with a system for blowing the boundary layer from the flaps, and the Tumansky and Metskhvarishvili design bureau began developing a version of the R11F-300 engine with an air stream from the compressor. The boundary layer blowing system significantly improved the take-off and landing characteristics of the aircraft, the takeoff and run lengths were reduced, and the landing speed drastically reduced. Along with other modifications and improvements, the serial modification of the MiG-21 with the boundary layer blowing system began to be produced under the MiG-21 PFS index, later upgraded to the MiG-21 PFM version. Aircraft of this modification were produced in fairly large numbers since 1964, both for domestic use and export. The MiG-21 PFM served in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
In War Thunder, the MiG-21 PFM is a further development of the F-13 version. Offensive armament was dismantled, since it seemed to have finally lost its relevance in modern air combat. Nonetheless, the fighter could be equipped with a double-barreled cannon pod in the ventral container. The MiG-21 PFM has a radar, carries rockets and bombs, as well as two guided missiles of different models - air-to-air R-3S, or the new to the game H-66 air-to-surface missiles. A distinctive feature of the MiG-21 PFM is the boundary layer blowing system, which greatly simplifies takeoff and landing. Otherwise, it is the same magnificent MiG-21, with an excellent climb rate, great speed, easy controls and a good choice of weaponry for any game task. The MiG-21 PFM will become yours for completing the tasks of the in-game event “Operation W.I.N.T.E.R.”, and it will be worth your efforts!

WOw this is actually an amazing pick! And a new update haha.. You guys are on fire the past year! :) Hope you don't lose your dedication any time soon :) - but also repaircosts system is just dumb .. and driving mechanics and tracks grip is just stupid. Menu / UI doesn't work with keyboard as good as the previous one worked. So you f*ckd up some stuff.. But at least you're giving us some new stuff that is actually interesting.. Also this time you didn't give a single MBT to break MM GJ <3
so from the dev server you removed R60's and 2 missles overall ?
and just now they also removed the R13 and r3r missle from its arsenal
NoahHuls, where can you see that?
What are the chances of us seeing a Bulgarian skin of this jet in-game?
If you will find really good one on live.warthunder, there are chances that in future it will be available in trophy chest.
I'm not that kind of people that comes every devblog to claim for adding this or those vehicles, but are there any reason for you to haven't added MiG-17F, MiG-17PF, MiG-19S for USSR yet? (2 of them already in-game)
I NEEEEEEED IT
Why is this plane going to be 10.0 instead of 10.3? it has better Thrust, better guns and similar maneuverability to the J-7II, and yet the J-7II is at 10.0 while the F-13 is 9.7...it's the exact same scenario between the J-7II and the F-13, so why is the same standard not held here?
10.3? where we have the F1 with 4 aim-9Js? this plane should be 10.0.
Mexicola93, the J-7II should be 9.7 then
Mig 21 is nice but EFW N-20 Aiguillon would be even nicer.
GIVE IT THE NUKE!!! pfm had nuke irl. also I'm happy that this is the reward vehicle this time around, an easy mig-21 for people who don't have one. I have the bis, but I still might try and nab this one, for the neat missiles. This is a better reward vehicle than other years, since it's like, fun and neat but not OP and not bad.
No. If you're giving it a nuclear bomb so will the F-4s, and that won't be good for the tanks on either side...
I am glad that you guys removed the R-60s. The PFM is a Vietnam era, secong generation MiG-21 with two underwing hardpoints and no access to the R-60 missile.
The only complaint I have is that inexperienced players will flock to buy it instead of earing it, go onto ground or air RB, and proceed to think they will be op. only to be shot down first 5min (or on spawn in group RB) by people who play competitively. I do think it is an ok add for experienced Russia players (like me) because it adds a new variety to ground attacks that we kind of needed for aircraft. though we don't need anymore MiG 21's in my opinion.
I meant to say (or spawn in ground RB)
