Changed as a result of the last open test:
- The MSL symbol has been removed. Only the “◇” missile marker, and the distance to it, will remain.
- The range of the smoke trail for missiles has been increased.
Thank you for your feedback!
In high ranked aircraft battles, the main weapon type is now guided air-to-air missiles with infrared homing heads. The missile itself emits nothing at launch and the only means of detecting the fact that it has been launched in reality is visual detection - i.e. observation of the missile from a pilot’s eyes.
Previously we implemented the simulation of missile launch detection through a text warning regarding the fact that it had been launched, but this implementation wasn't very satisfactory to players and also us. We have received numerous requests to disable this system in aircraft RB similar to aircraft SB in order to increase the realism and importance of the player's actions by evading attacks. In addition it would increase the effectiveness of early air-to-air missiles with low maneuverability making it easier to dodge them after the appearance of a text warning.
Also there is some inconsistency in the current system: for example an aircraft would receive a warning about the launch of a guided air-to-air missile but didn’t receive a warning of a launch from an anti-aircraft missile system (not equipped radar warning system which isn't capable of detecting radar operation).
The detection of guided missiles
This is why we’ve decided to improve the game’s missile warning mechanics, making it more realistic preserving the interest in gameplay. Messages on the screen about the detection of the launched missiles will be disabled.
- In aircraft AB and RB (marker-enabled game modes) a special “◇” marker will be added on all enemy guided missiles within the pilot’s detection range. The range of the marker’s appearance will depend on the skill of the crew, namely, an “Awareness” skill which will be also responsible for the new parameter “Range of missile detection”. Markers will appear when the missile engine is turned on and disappear after a short period of time after it stops.
- In the SB game mode the warning detection system will not be changed. The warning system still depends on the aircraft being equipped with the appropriate electronic ballistic missile defense systems.
- In markerless gaming modes missile markers will also be hidden, as well as text warnings on launched missiles. Missile detection will be visual, or automatic for aircraft and helicopters that have the appropriate warning systems on board in reality.
In these gaming modes, you won’t simply wait for a text warning - you will need to observe your enemy to detect missile launch. An attacking player, in their turn, will have an opportunity to approach undetected into missile launch range amidst a battle to inflict a sudden strike on the enemy. The new mechanics will allow us to implement the potential realisation of missile combat beyond visual range and also, multi-angle missiles in future.

This is one of the worst decisions Gaijin has ever made. Period.
False. Git gud or stay out of top tier if you cant simply look behind you and use your eyes. This dumb crutch of a text warning NEEDS TO GO!
Jakob_Norz, imagine in a 12 v 12 looking the whole match behind to spot missiles being launched at a range of 1-4 km, you barely have any space in huge matches to engage an enemy without having one on your six in the first 30 seconds. Here skill doesn't matter with 30g missiles where you've to scan 270 degrees to spot a missile and in the mean time a guy climbs up below you and engages you with his guns while you were spotting missiles because you had 2 enemies on your six.
To me this sounds like a very unreliable system. Gaijin fucks up the marker system from time to time, which results in aircraft not beeing spotted in clear weather when they are like 2km away (and yes i have had this happen to me with aced, max level crews). I am sure there will be simmilar problems with this ner system.
Expert, maxed crew and didn't spot enemy 0.1km behind me and shooting at me, because of medium (white) clouds.
gaijin you just made the missile meta even more not fun and confusing stick to one thing or maybe do a poll before you add such thing i personally dont like the addition what you will be making
I paid more than 100k!!!
Is there a reason why Swedish vehicles can't participate?
Good to see you guys improving, gaijin. I also recommend adding appropriate warning radio chatter (especially for tandem seat fighter) like "misslie launch, 8 o'clock!" or "missile right, break left!" instead of useless chatter like "WhAt aRe YoU wAiTinG foR?" or "gEt 'em OfF mE!!!!!!!!"
2200 Hours i am on... You guys have no clue how to make a fun game anymore... its purely about greed... UNINSTALLED... the temptation to play has been removed... and no... i will not spend a penny on any other product by this team... So you know where to put that other game... its called a bin.
Your upset because they removed a missile launched banner which removes the realism from the game, and made evasion easier, and real pilots had no such thing why should you!
EricH1983, First its a game second they did have warnings that where similar. Also some people like more casual game play
Okay, I will say this, the best thing would be to have both the missile launched message and the new thing
This does make earlier missiles more effective, though Im worried about how will you know when is the missile tracking you and not someone else, from what I've seen the diamond displays for any enemy missile and you have no way of measuring the distance between you and it until it's too late (for AIM-9Js and Magics) Maybe something like the distance indicator which planes have would be enough to know when to evade so as to not end up doing evasive maneuvers to evade a missile sent to a teammate.
That's kinda the issue we have with the current system actually. You will get the "missile launch detected" warning if any missile happens to be flying to the rear of your plane, be it from friendly planes or hostile, and regardless of whether they are targeting you.
Really great idea, thx a lot!
