Continuing the highlighting of some of the new features in our Dagor Engine 5.0 graphical engine, that we are planning to present to War Thunder players in update 1.77. In today's devblog in connection with the new Dagor Engine 5.0, we would like to talk about two visual features: weather and environmental effects.
Rain effects
We have improved rain and rain water effects. Now raindrops will leave ripples on puddles and water surfaces. As well as that, streams of rain water will now flow down and across surfaces - stones, pavement, roofs and walls:
Layered fog
In update 1.77, our new graphical engine Dagor Engine 5.0 will bring fog and smoke effects to the game. Depending on the weather, fog can appear over rivers and lakes, and in valleys and fields. We have tried to make the fog effect as photo realistic as possible, the fog itself looks three-dimensional, has layers and a visual depth – in other words, it’s very similar to real fog.
Incidentally, in the future fog may influence gameplay – for example, by hiding the advance of an assault group of tank
Dynamic clouds and sun
Clouds and sun in our game now have their own life. Clouds move across the sky and don’t just hang in place. The sun also moves from East to West in an astronomically correct way, according to the date and time of a battle and geographical latitude of a location.
We plan to implement these changes after update 1.77 is released.

Can we expect some changes to vehicles effects? (like exchange that jet fire for some heat haze)
This is infinitely better than any one new vehicle, I'm liking this update
Totally agree with you!
shut up and take my muneeeeeee!!!!
Improving weather effects when you barely get to see weather variation in matches... You guys seem to have all the wrong priorities. Still gonna stay loyal though...
I know that you make these new weather effects and all but i new see anything like Fog, storm, rain, or that added with night maps. are we ever gonna have random weather and timeline battles i would really like to have a night + storm match it might be hard to see but it changes the hole gameplay. like if we had kursk on 9.0 then noone takes an ATGM or sniper tank but takes a tank that they can use for close combat because maybe they dont have parts but they can do something. thx and nicejo
I know that you make these new weather effects and all but i *never*
This dagor engine was really nice always but good to see you improve the engine as well not just other stuff for our favorite game. I hope we will see another devblog today :)
I hope it comes with rain happening more often in tank matches
So great! We have all of these awesome weather effects and the game looks really cool and all, but there is one thing that is missing... When you are on kursk (9.0 for example) and it's night with fog and rain everyone thinks it's so cool until you realize that a bunch of people in the game who have excellent computers are running on ultra low quality at 800 fps, in the back of the map and they have no fog, no rain, no sunglare, no dust clouds, and no life. This is why people scream "hacks"
When is this update coming out?
Soo Cool, Thank gaijin for working the the game and make it look, closer to your "Victory is Ours" trailer. !<(2.2)
