Continuing the highlighting of some of the new features in our Dagor Engine 5.0 graphical engine, that we are planning to present to War Thunder players in update 1.77. In today's devblog in connection with the new Dagor Engine 5.0, we would like to talk about two visual features: weather and environmental effects.
Rain effects
We have improved rain and rain water effects. Now raindrops will leave ripples on puddles and water surfaces. As well as that, streams of rain water will now flow down and across surfaces - stones, pavement, roofs and walls:
Layered fog
In update 1.77, our new graphical engine Dagor Engine 5.0 will bring fog and smoke effects to the game. Depending on the weather, fog can appear over rivers and lakes, and in valleys and fields. We have tried to make the fog effect as photo realistic as possible, the fog itself looks three-dimensional, has layers and a visual depth – in other words, it’s very similar to real fog.
Incidentally, in the future fog may influence gameplay – for example, by hiding the advance of an assault group of tank
Dynamic clouds and sun
Clouds and sun in our game now have their own life. Clouds move across the sky and don’t just hang in place. The sun also moves from East to West in an astronomically correct way, according to the date and time of a battle and geographical latitude of a location.
We plan to implement these changes after update 1.77 is released.

Meanwhile the ulq crowd kept spotting through storms and thick fogs as if it was a clear summer day...
This is what I dread too, it has to be none optional i.e no setting adjustments in options..
EricH1983, Let me explain how the world works my friend; maybe 5 % of the worlds population can afford top gear- pc's, cars. whatever. Another 25-30% can hook up with pretty good gear. The rest of us have to make do with what we have. Set the game so only high quality works- bang- 60% of your subscribers gone. Especially in lesser developed countries. A game like WT should unify the world- get some empathy on man.
This makes me think that the fogs we have in Lithuania are some sort of mutant fogs. You can't see 10m down the road with fog lights on...
will the dev's ever make it so enemy's can hear the stuka sirens? and make it a researchable module for all the ju-87's?
Cant w8 to see Nuclear Sun in 5.0,but low seetings gives u much bigger chance to see around, so low settings FTW.
Hey gaijin now with the fog and hazy weather will you remove ulq since ulq players will have an even more unfair advantage over high quality players (I don't get why people who can play better quality play on ulq the game is just so beautiful on better graphics... Because its a fact ulq is being abused) Im not saying remove ulq completely just make it so that players that can play better quality than ulq cant switch to ulq?
oeh.. in mother of god... soo lovely!
Dynamic sun becomes very handy when the battle takes days :D
This looks nice and all, and I like it a lot, but the thing is, this is just giving more and more advantage to those who are using the low graphics exploit and putting those who play it on high in a disadvantage.
RIP my PC :(
Great. Something that will at least mildly challenge my hardware. I have been waiting for such improvements for a long time.
