On November 25th, 1942 a Soviet-French treaty to create a French fighter squadron in the territory of the USSR was signed. Pilots asked that the squadron would be named “Normandie”. It took part in the battle of Kursk in 1943 and in the offensive in Belorussia in 1944, as well as battles in East Prussia. For its special services during the assault of Niemen the squadron received its respective second name.
During their service 96 French pilots made 5240 operational flights, had 273 confirmed and 36 unconfirmed victories. Four pilots became heroes of the Soviet Union while others also received numerous rewards.

Disappointed you cannot earn the plane or get a discount for it by completing tasks. I miss the old war thunder weekend specials. :(
Did you miss out on the I-29/Yak-22 premium and the M8? o3o
It's already very cheap, there is no need to have discount for it, especially that it's something new, that was never before available.
This is a very cool plane and decal , thanks gaijin!
Enjoy!
Stona_WT, Yes, thanks! Finally, a new grinding plane for the French!
The Normandie-Niemen also operated the 2-OP. Tier IV premium when?
It's gonna be the first Tier VI Premium.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Russians must really hate the French. You stuff their lineup with American planes and then make them buy a Russian plane? Oh and 11.00$ is not cheap for a plane you research free in the Russian line.
France in reality used a significant amount of foreign aircraft, particularly during the wartime and immediate postwar years. The aircraft they have are historical and rightly belong within the tree. People asked for more premium French planes and as such, it was the perfect opportunity to tie in this aircraft.
11 dollars is cheap for a limited premium version of an existing plane in an entirely different nation’s tree, seriously Gaijin just gave us up to 500 GE free for making purchases with them in the past. Acting entitled like you are here, serves no purpose here.
For all the bad clichès about capitulation and retreating France has thanks to it's leadership you really have to respect the french soldiers. I mean: Really? They were even active at the eastern front?? Was there any ww2 theater without french participation???
Our French soldiers were not technically involved in the Pacific War, as far as I know, since French possessions in the Pacific were too far of the main theatre of operation. But they fought the Japanese and the Thai in Indochina (today's Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam).
Kasukaru, Actually, when France surrendered to Germany in 1940, all of her holdings in Indochina were given to Japan. French units there were disarmed and taken prisoner by the Japanese. This area remained in Japanese hands almost 'til the end of WW2. I don't recall hearing of any Free French forces fighting there. Please correct me if I am wrong.
So is this a Russian spitfire situation? Special vehicle that only comes around to be bought once in a while?
Do i become a french closed beta tester when i buy this plane?
french planes are open
*uli030, Not the whole tree
Gaijin, when will you add hungarian tech tree?
Hungry tech tree :D
nice joke
Vive la France !
I'd like to buy this plane...for the Soviet tree. I understand that the French tree is incomplete but it doesn't make much sense to me to add a Yak to it.
It was used by French pilots in a French only unit in the USSR, it makes perfect sense for it to be added to the French TT as it is quite unique
Neca007, Also, after the war, the pilots were allowed to return to France with their Yak (as a personal gift) where they formed the Normandie Fighter Squadron on these planes. So it's as historical as it can be.
