[Enduring Confrontation] Dunkirk - Air Defence
Available from July 21st 16:30 GMT to July 24th 7:00 GMT
Operation Dynamo, 22nd May - 4th June 1940
France was falling rapidly to the advancing German army, the Allied forces were divided by the German advance from the Ardennes to the Somme. The Allied armies in the north were cut off and quickly becoming encircled. An evacuation of the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) began on the 26th May whilst the Allies strengthened their defences against advancing German armour which met heavy resistance.
Heavy German bombing had rendered Dunkirk's harbour useless, and hundreds of thousands of men were stuck on the beach, hoping to be rescued. The Luftwaffe attacked the troops on the beach and reduced the town of Dunkirk to rubble whenever the weather was suitable. The RAF intercepted as many of the attacking aircraft as was humanly possible whilst being crippled by the distance they had to travel from Allied airfields to assist the beleaguered forces as well as pitting relatively inexperienced pilots against the more veteran German pilots. Despite the limitations, over the nine days of Operation Dynamo, the RAF flew 2,739 fighter sorties and an additional 822 reconnaissance and bombing missions. Fighter Command claimed 262 enemy aircraft downed for 106 of their own destroyed.
On the 29th of May, the British public were advised of the evacuation, many privately owned boats started arriving at Dunkirk to ferry the troops to safety. This fleet of small vessels famously became known as the 'Little Ships'. The contribution these civilian vessels made and the bravery of the crews in their part in the evacuation set a source to the term 'Dunkirk spirit', an expression still used today to demonstrate the British will and the ability to rally together in the face of overwhelming odds.
On the 4th of June, at the end of the operation, 198,000 British and 140,000 other Allied troops had been saved, while nearly all heavy equipment had been left behind. Although the Germans had taken over a million Allied prisoners in three weeks at a cost of 60,000 casualties, the evacuation has been seen as major morale boost to the British people and enabled the Allies to regroup for a fight that was to be joined in the skies over the “Home Turf” (The Battle of Britain), and to resist the anticipated German invasion of Britain (Operation Sealion).

On the french WT page it is written the exact same comment on the history of Operation Dynamo but "Two french divisions stayed behind and sacrificed themselves to stop the german advance to let the evacuation be fulfilled" Why didn't you mentionned it ? (Btw just like in the film)
As i translate texts in French, i often adapt a bit on the fly without really thinking about it, and i decided to add that part because it's relevant for my community. I believe it was mentioned in the (much longer) original text but had to be cut to shorten the text along many other details (Unfortunately, above a certain amount of lines a LOT of people stop reading, we have to keep a balance between keeping the relevant intel, and keeping the average reader interested.).
Ouiche, Thank you Ouiche. As I said on the french WT page, they are all heroes, they all deserve to be mentionned. It's history afterall. But thanks to have did it in french at least :)
so i played the British side and was kinda disappointed that it had nothing to do with Dunkirk and was in every way i can think of a copy of Battle of Britain but i also liked that map so was not to mad. number 2 is I LOVE RB ENDURING CONFRONTATION AND CANT GET ENOUGH OF IT SO NEVER STOP ADDING THEM EVER. that aside the most madding day of my war thunder account was wen EC was only released in sim so i will always say Yes! though i wish it was more balanced as it was like 5 vs full teem of spits
pleas either extend the time for this one or quickly add a new one and i dont care if it is a old map i just like the map size and re spawn abilities as evan if you get shot down with the first shot you still have a chance for revenge which is fun. might be fun to test a RB EC with no markers though as i cant speak for all of WT but i can say the only reason i ever play tanks is i enjoy dogfights with no markers and sim can be hard to play sometimes. and as for this event i give it 4-5 stars
Gajin please change the set up next time, the plane are to far a part and there are no ship to defend or troops on the beach. This has so much more potential.
This isn't [Enduring Confrontation] Dunkirk - Air Defence this is [Enduring Confrontation] Battle of Britain and it's a barren wasteland without players, bots, or targets
Funny, yesterday was premier of movie "Dunkirk" in Croatian cinemas
Bias. It isn't opening till today in Britain. 8P
Scarper, Can't see it until tomorrow, definitely hyped
Gaijin jumping aboard the Dunkirk train, I see.
Not a bad train to jump on :)
Train? Did you see any train moving on that sandy beach? Please!
Can you please add the D520 into the playable aircraft for Great Britain?
I've spent over 30 minutes waiting to get in a game for EC, this is ridiculous.
The gamemode is good, but VERY TIME-CONSUMING. I spent probably 10 REAL minutes trying to fly my wellington across the english channel and then I accidentally prematurely dropped my 1 and only bomb right into the ocean. So I ended up wasting 10 minutes. Good try anyway.
If we just had boats to go with this event :O
