The version of our game for Apple computers now supports Metal, which means that battles are going to look even better!
![]() |
We are pleased to announce that War Thunder for Apple computers will support Metal in the incoming update, a graphics API that will substantially boost the game's frame rate. Previously, the Mac version of our game client only worked with OpenGL, which restricted the speed at which battles could be displayed and could lower the frame rate in scenes involving a large number of shaders, for example when a player takes an artillery hit. With Metal, dynamic scenes in the Mac client will be displayed much faster, and in some cases, the frame rate will be doubled!
War Thunder will automatically switch to Metal on all Apple computers that support this technology.
To try the new Metal technology currently, you need to include the following line in the config.blk file in the video section: driver:t="metal".

Oh god thanks so much! <3
And DirectX12?
Why?
All answers (1)Stona_WT, so Metal. It urges me how much effort it was upon the conversion between OpenGL and Metal. Do you can say a bit about it? Please allow forum's discussion about this article Stona, please! It's very important, a huge leap in programming for your team and very interesting!
DirectX 12 is crap and another narrow-minded attempt to lock users, programs and developers onto a given system! It's the worst API 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳, exclusively to for single operating system on a single platform, savvy?
Happy for you guys, I hate mac PC's but if you guys are happy good on ya mate, i suggest buying a PC windows:)
Or linux! In a world with no Gates, who needs windows?! :D
Nice
This means nothing to me but game optimisation is always a step in the right direction.
How about AMD GPU optimization? Currently AMD graphics dont look even half as good as Nvidia
You are aware that graphic in War Thunder looks same on both GPUs?
Stona_WT, No i am not aware since there are multiple forum threads saying the opposite. But i will try my best to make it work
What?! AMD's are 𝘸𝘢𝘺 superior over any nVidia, thanks to the crap GFE and the usual idiocy 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘫𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘰𝘣𝘣𝘪𝘵™ bringing in every once in a while. On image-quality AMD/ATi is far superior as most post-processing (FXAA, AA, AF) doesn't even work on nVidia or cause extreme texture-flickering. If you need help, just ask – it's that easy. :)
Smartcom5, You are both entirely wrong. As Stona_WT already said, war thunder on same settings looks the same on both GPU's. And War Thunder doens't use any specific Nvidia or AMD graphics (aside of some destruction gameworks effects which perform the same accross the board). And funny you start with post-processing, since AMD didn't innovate at all recently, while Nvidia is still pushing new technologies like MFAA, which can still be used in WT. In short, don't sell red or green team crap, like Stona said
People should stop trying to play games on MAC's on the first place to be honest xD.
What? No! Early adaptors, make our own hardware less expensive. xD
