A terrifying howl, the smoke trails of dozens of rockets and an ocean of fire in which enemy troops and fortifications drown. This became one of the most vivid symbols of WW2. German troops nicknamed the BM-13 rocket launcher “Stalin’s organ”, while the Red Army affectionately named it Katyusha. In honour of the 72nd anniversary of victory in the WW2, we are proud to present the legendary Katyusha in War Thunder!
From the first large battles of WW2, the experience of using rocket artillery showed that the BM-13 Katyusha vehicles were highly effective in destroying enemy ground troops and vehicles. The high shell spread rate was compensated for by each launcher’s high rate of fire and the practice of using Katyushas only in an artillery battery, provided a high density of fire over a large area. In addition, the characteristic howl as the shells launched during massed fire, along with the explosions and destruction that the BM-13 launchers dished out, had a significant psychological effect on enemy soldiers. In short, the Katyusha was a magnificent weapon and its battle career took it all the way from the summer of 1941 to Berlin itself.
Throughout its service, engineers tried to improve the rocket launcher’s design, increase its accuracy and volley power, and adapt the Katyusha design for use on various platforms. Thus appeared torpedo boats with Katyusha launchers (for example, Project 1124), the launchers were even mounted on tanks (the BM-8-24 familiar to our players). Experiments were also done on a classic Katyusha on a truck chassis. This is because a factory evacuation in 1941 put a stop to the manufacture of the ZIS-6 trucks for which the multiple rocket launcher system was designed. At the same time, as part of the lend-lease program, the USSR began to mobilize the fairly reasonable American Studebaker US6 trucks. It was these very trucks that were chosen as bases for the rocket launchers, for which the design of the platform and the launcher system itself required specific changes. The vehicle received the designation BM-13N. In total, over 1,800 Katyushas were built on the Studebaker chassis. It was in this form that the Katyusha was produced until the end of the war. This Soviet rocket launcher on an American chassis took part in all offensive operations from 1943 to 1945. It’s a true weapon of victory!

In our game, the BM-13N Katyusha is a collectible vehicle at rank II in the Soviet ground vehicle tech tree. Because it was possible to hit targets at distances of several hundred meters even with a fully lowered frame with launchers for 16 rockets, the player must fight at very long ranges. In addition, the vehicle has its specifics – only two crew members fit into the Studebaker cabin. So the correct tactic whilst driving a Katyusha is to engage the enemy from a long range using cover - the powerful rockets will do the rest. All the remaining rocket loading is done from outside the vehicle. In short, playing on the Katyusha in War Thunder battles isn’t easy, but this wonderful machine will be a true jewel in the hangar of any collector!

Got it now, thanks Gaijin for making it easier for rocket-aim challenged people like me. I'm going to spend some GE as a thank you, maybe even buy the BM-8-24.
Did you get the Katyusha for winning the event? I won the event but didn't get it so I didn't know if it was for people who already bought the BM-8-24 or not.
Come on people! You are making this way too easy. Most decent players I know were able to get the 5 kills in regular matches on the first few tries. Now you are just handing it out like candy!
You have a point, I got my 5 kills on my 4th try. On the other hand now the event is fair to everyone so Gaijin has a point to.
I put in the code the second time today and WHERES THE BM-8-24??? Yesterday it didnt work now today. I would really appreciate some help thanks.
restart your game completely. do not just log out and log in. quit the game and close it before you restart again. the Bm-8-24 should appear as soon you log on. if it doesn't work. check if the login of the code is related to the login in your game.
the Bm-8-24 is such a terrible tank even a BR 1.0 can resist multiple direct hit from behind. the BR allow you to face way more armored tank, you are always out of ammo because a single kill take you 2/3 of you rocket. this tank is always under-performing and should be at best BR1.7 and no more. you are lucky to do 2 kill with your ammunition load and this is IF there is no teammate who think it would be good to finish your kill for you.
So basically, me and a bunch of other people bought the bm-8-24 for nothing? Awesome. if only we had those news earlier so we didn't have to waste 2k+ ge on it..
Its only for people who bought the bm-8-24, I won the event twice and never got the Katyusha with my rental tank.
Taterbug90, i did it with my 1h test drive. you really need to fo 5kill in a single game and you have 1h a day to do it. i think it's more than enough but it can be a good challenge since most of the enemy tank will resist to half of your M-8 rocket.
This event has left me deeply disappointed with this game and the Gajin team. After day 2 of attempting this event and nearly completing it twice with 4 kills, I'm extremely frustrated. The first time, my tank got stuck on a small piece of wall that it should have been able to get off of, the 2nd time to try to smash through a low wall that tanks are usually able to smash through but instead knocks out my crew.
I saw that every server I went onto was full of BM-8-24's I saw there was an event. I logged in, used the code, and when I got into War Thunder, I only received the title incinerator and not the tank for rental.
