Having already covered 3D Aircraft Modeling, Cockpits, Location and Map creation, it's time to take a look at creating Custom Skins and Camouflages!

The War Thunder Content Development Kit (CDK) has already made a big impact on the community, with more users getting involved every day. This complex set of tools takes your War Thunder experience to a whole new level, from adapting game mechanics to developing your own creations to function in game. With the vast amount of tools to fulfil your every needs, there is no limit to your imagination.

Creating Custom Skins and Camouflages for use in War Thunder:

Creating your own personal Skins and Camouflages for your favorite Aircraft or Ground Vehicle in game is the most popular choice for content creators. From famous Ace pilots, Racing schemes, Historical camouflages to fictional and “what if” style skins, there are no limits to the customization of your vehicle’s skins in game. Every machine in game has the ability to create a template, to which you can edit using most photo or image editing software.

Camouflages and Skins allow you to add a personal touch to your aircraft. With a huge array of vehicles at your command in War Thunder, you can make each your own in a unique way. Just as Pilots and Tankers did in the past, everyone can have their own inspired liveries and designs that add a familiar feel to your vehicles. This can be especially useful for Movie and Cinematic makers as well as those who take part in the regular Racing Events in War Thunder.

Update 1.53 'Firestorm' saw a massive upgrade to the Dagor 4.0 game engine for War Thunder and the introduction of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) means that Vehicles in game now appear in a vivid array of detail that brings a true to life impact to the game. Now every bolt, panel, rivet, screw and scratch appears hyper realistic which can also be faithfully reflected through your own user skins thanks to the upgraded engine.

Most importantly, you can find a vast array of Skins on the War Thunder Community Live Hub. Here you can search, share, download, upload and comment on content created by members of the War Thunder community and post your own creations for others to use and enjoy.

Content created and uploaded to War Thunder Live also has a chance of making it into the game via the Revenue Share Program, more information on that can be found in our dedicated Wikipedia Article. Some very talented creators have also had their work implemented in game as part of this program.

In future articles, together with the Community creators, we will
take an in-depth look at the process of camouflage design and creation!
