National Airborne Day takes place in the United States on August 16th, marking the anniversary of the first parachute jump in 1940. American paratroopers made a tremendous contribution to the success of key operations during the Second World War. Since then, airborne operations have been carried out in conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

• The UH-1C is a versatile, maneuverable helicopter equipped with night-vision capabilities. The UH-1C XM-30 variant derives its name from its XM140 30 mm cannons. However, pilots can also opt for alternative external armament, such as M134 7.62 mm machine guns, BGM-71C Improved TOW ATGMs, or FFAR Mighty Mouse rockets.
