The Great French Revolution shook the entire world, and one of the first and most important events of that time was the storming of the Bastille prison-fortress on July 14th, 1789. This date was not celebrated for almost a hundred years until 1880, when July 14th became a National Holiday. For this day, a large military parade was introduced in 1880, then transferred to the Champs-Élysées in 1980.
The Israeli A-4E Returns to Mark its First Flight Anniversary!
On July 12th 1961, the A-4E attack aircraft took to the skies for the first time. This aircraft was a more modern version of the A-4 Skyhawk, featuring improved avionics, a more powerful engine, and as many as six hardpoints for secondary weapons. A total of five hundred of this version were built. On September 29th 1967, the first batch of Skyhawks arrived at the port of Haifa. These aircraft served Israel for as many as 48 years until 2015.

Marat Returns with a Discount on the Anniversary of the Start of Construction!
On June 15th 1909, the battleship Petropavlovsk was laid down at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. In 1921, it was named “Marat” in honor of French revolutionary leader Jean-Paul Marat. During the Second World War, Marat participated in the defense of Leningrad, firing almost two thousand 305 mm shells.

Germany’s Wellington Mk Ic Returns for the Anniversary of its First Flight!
On June 15th 1936, the Vickers Wellington made its maiden flight. This was the most widely produced British bomber and was used throughout the Second World War, with more than 11,000 units being built. Wellingtons were used for night bombing, submarine hunting, mine clearing and as carriers of airborne radio detection and guidance systems.

The first attempt to create a unified German fleet was made on June 14th 1848 against the backdrop of the Danish-German War. The attempt was not very successful, and Germany lost the war. After the dissolution of the fleet, some of the ships went to Prussia, and on the basis of the Prussian Navy, the naval forces of the German Empire were formed in 1871. The modern German Navy continues to celebrate this day on June 14th.

The Royal Italian Navy was founded shortly after the unification of the country on March 17th 1861. A significant part of it was made up of the navies of the kingdoms of Naples and Sardinia. For a long time, they were significantly disunited, and only in 1881 was a common Naval Academy opened in Livorno. By the beginning of the 20th century, Italy was already a serious naval power, capable of confronting Austria-Hungary in the Adriatic Sea. It was there on June 10th 1917 that an Italian motor torpedo boat sank the dreadnought SMS Szent István, and in honor of this victory, Italian Navy Day was established.

On June 5th 1967, the Six-Day War began, where Israeli M-51 Sherman tanks were used for the first time in combat. 15 years later on June 6th 1982, the Lebanon War started, where Merkava tanks were used for the first time, proving themselves against Syrian T-72s.

Every year on the first Sunday in June, Canada celebrates Armed Forces Day. At the start of the First World War, the Canadian Armed forces had just 3,500 men, but by the end of the war with conscription announced, they expanded to 400,000. 24,000 of these took part in battles in Europe. The conscription for the Second World War was even larger, with more than a million Canadians serving and of these, 42,000 died in combat. Currently, the Canadian Armed Forces have just over 90,000 personnel.

The first air squadrons appeared in the Ottoman Empire on June 1st, 1911. This date is also celebrated in the Turkish Republic as Air Force Day. Under president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the Turkish Air Force became one of the largest in Europe. They were modernized several times, which was facilitated by the country’s accession to NATO. Turkey was one of the five countries where F-16 fighters were produced.
